alec guinness Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 No doubt in the scottish pigeon year the Gold cup is the premier race, the local Rennes ace at the time was wattie robertson of lennoxtown who on a visit to macmerry told Eddie that he only wanted a youngster from the very best and none of his rubbish!!!! Eddie liked watties cheek and came away with a daughter of live circuit which was a cracker, after watties unfortunate death the hen ended up with ourselves in milton of campsie and a grandson scored 5 times in the west coast combine. 2nd open Tracy b as stated would go on to win a gold award along with famous strathclyde lass, next up one of the top lofts at the time johnston of pencaitland with two of his famous deanview birds in 4th and 5th,the midland fed next with wee bobby Andrews from the plains near Airdrie, michael currie with two stunners and the stuff of dreams ( great stuff yeboah) his uncle 5 times gold award winner mr and mrs ben scott brydkirk in there as usual, previous and soon to be gold cup winners jock Poole,Derek Norden, barney dalgliesh. Big mention for clubmate the evergreen dan Rae croy, the strangs who timed a later bird also to win a four figure sum and SNFC legends tom little creca and a o Milne johnshaven, also a young John Ellis who would find fame later in ELPHINSTONE,what a fantastic result and personally me and dad listened to the radio at 11pm to learn of the early birds with Eddie Newcombe and the Johnstons mentioned,I was a very excited 12 year old when timing a red cheq cock the next day for our wee piece of glory! THE SNFC GOLD CUP RACE GREAT GREAT MEMORIES. :partick-thistle-Crest:

The west isn't a shadow of itself Colin, the whole national is a shadow of itself, every section has diminished. Years ago, the drag was into the west but still the majority of birds timed high up were from the east and south sections, obviously location makes up for drag .Saying all this, there are still great fanciers in all sections.
