peter pandy Posted May 19, 2016 Author Report Posted May 19, 2016 Late last night while watching telly Wee Mary say's to me, Do you know what I fancy ?. Thinking it was not a leap year and my mind racing, what say's I !!, she replied roasted cheese, Aye, I could go a bit of that so off she trundles through to the kitchen and after a little pause she shouts Peter we have mice, bolting into the kitchen and there's wee Mary with the fridge door open saying they must be awful big and strong to have opened this door and carted off 1lb of cheddar ? So what have you done with it, Blaming the dogs was not going to wash so had to come clean and tell her the birds have had it. I appear to be in the dogs house at the moment as she has went on strike.. :emoticon-0156-rain:
Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 You've just been roasted, ya big cheese. :D
peter pandy Posted May 21, 2016 Author Report Posted May 21, 2016 I have been watching a Yearling Cock most of the week wooing a Hen under the ETS box and with it being a Yearling Open race this week-end decided on Friday morning to place a nest bowl under it and low and behold he went on it and refuses to budge with the Hen sitting on top of him. The message picked up later that day that there would be a 24 hour basketing delay had me wondering if I could have been a bit premature however this morning they were still attracted to the bowl and I had to lift him from it to send him this afternoon. On checking his last race which was from Selby 190 mls last week, It only took him 10 hrs to cover it so he must be fit LOL and have shoved a couple of quid on him. If he homes I will have 100% returns as he is on his Jack Todd.

peter pandy Posted May 21, 2016 Author Report Posted May 21, 2016 Cheers Andy, Perhaps I should have added that when I only send the one bird I usually do well but I suppose there has to come a time when that motivation which I crave to see will result in a let down as their are so many pitfalls these days for our entrants to succeed.
peter pandy Posted May 21, 2016 Author Report Posted May 21, 2016 I tried to edit my last post but was unsuccessful. It was only to say that another thing in his favour was the large form spot on his keel.
peter pandy Posted May 22, 2016 Author Report Posted May 22, 2016 Its been a terrible day for me to-day with my lone entry at Newark not making it and the "Bairns" getting duffed, Just makes you want to puke but I will down a couple of pints of the old Home Brew to drown my sorrows. Most of my Hens have laid over the past 2 days so will all go to the first National now..
peter pandy Posted May 25, 2016 Author Report Posted May 25, 2016 17 days ago I lost ""The Grand"" out of Ripon 160 miles and missed him every day since, as he was always the first bird I looked at when entering the loft, and he was probably the last bird I looked at when locking up.Its funny or sad when you think of a bird every day that you know you are never going to see again, and I think I cried when going into the loft to-night and there he was looking up at me minus all but one tail feather. I could have swore he was tying to say sorry to me for being away so long as I gathered him up and gave him a welcome home kiss. Welcome Back Son.

Uphill Lofts Posted May 25, 2016 Report Posted May 25, 2016 Nice to get them good ones back. I have one missing from Mondays M.N.F.C. Seven firsts and loads of prizes. Named him (Roger Bannister) first time to night out.4 year old. Gone for good probably.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 25, 2016 Report Posted May 25, 2016 Glad you got him back Peter. He obviously means a lot to you and to save any future heartbreak, put him in the stock loft. By the sound of his name, he is due the retirement and the opportunity to grow old peacefully.

peter pandy Posted May 27, 2016 Author Report Posted May 27, 2016 WHERE DO THEY GO TO ??. Just had a yearling reported dead which was racing from Selby 190 miles and was found dead just North of Callander. WHY would it have flown past its loft without stopping to say hello and it was off to see the scenery further up !!. Blinking beats me.

peter pandy Posted June 6, 2016 Author Report Posted June 6, 2016 After a wee lay off I will continue with my observations in my loft, Last Sunday the Nat candidates went for a 60 mile spin and was surprised that one did it in 90 minutes with the next at 110 minutes and the rest trailing in all afternoon but nothing hit so it could be classed as a success, Through the week they have lived quietly with nest building while sitting eggs 10-14 says for basketing on Thursday. My mate wanted me to accompany him to Newmains so picked me up and off we went at 19.30 arriving at 20.10 to be met with a queue stretching out the yard but worse was to report. My mate is on Kidney dialysis three days a week and when he put my basket into his motor he covered it with an elasticated cover to stop dust from entering the interior of his motor. Now my experience of birds travelling covered unless used to it has been that they will throw up anything in the crop and that is what transpired, I was in two minds to take them back home but with standing in the queue for over an hour they seemed to pick up so I decided to send. When we eventually made the inside of Newmains club house they had run out of baskets and had to use the Lanarkshire Geraldy crates which were lying around. We finally had the birds crated at 22.45 and departed for home. The Boness transporter was there from 21.30 and spaces for 17 baskets and with 25 full baskets plus 4-6 Lanarkshire Geraldy crates we were fkd if we knew how or when they were going to manage. This is not critisizing the organisation but should the SNFC be accepting Federation Pigeons when they cannot accomodate their own members. I sent 6 and with four nights in a fully laden transporter with a silly 12 inch plastic drinker I dont give much hope for seeing 50 % returns especially when the Geraldy crate drinkers are full length. Why the Lanarkshire guys are prepared to accept this is pure conjecure. The very best of luck to everyone competing to-day and can only hope we all fullfill our dreams with good returns for our Gold Cup entrants.
peter pandy Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 This week-end with no racing has me sitting here contemplating my next move for Littlehampton !! To send or not to send is the dilemma. At Buckingham I managed to have 4 returned from the 6 sent with a yearling and 2 year old not making it, The Cheq Hen that was 20 minutes in front of all the trainers at 60 miles was my first bird in Buckingham to be placed 32nd in the Section unfortunately 7 minutes from making the Open result which really surprised me as I expected them to come either from the South to South West with the Easterly wind NOT the East but once again very few came through the Southern Uplands as only around 40 birds made the Open result into the West Section which included the Open winner so hearty congratulations to them in fulfilling their dream. My Cheq Hen being from Padfield stock introduced 3 years ago will hopefully be in the right frame of mind for the Gold Cup as at the moment unless I can get some serious training in this week from a 100 miles trainer she will have to be my only entry. I can see me sending a couple of yearlings this week which so far have done all I have asked of them and they certainly look the part. The "Grand" who returned minus his tail has been given Sedochol on his feed and his tail has grown in without any frets. I must admit I contemplated taking the advice given at the time by members on the forum to retire him but he has taken a new Hen and looks a million dollars, More a Dark Cheq than the Cheq he is, He will join my candidate birds for Ancensis which was the original plan. He along with others will have two 100 mile single up tosses within the next 10 days to bring their mileage up a bit being short of time on the wing.My youngters bred for the Young Bird National are coming along sweetly and should shortly be on the wing as I will not introduce any darkness system. Never Have an Never Will. NATURAL is the name of my game...
andy Burgess Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 best of luck for the coming weekend,s racing Peter .
peter pandy Posted June 13, 2016 Author Report Posted June 13, 2016 And to you Andy including all who are participating at the near 400 mark.
peter pandy Posted June 14, 2016 Author Report Posted June 14, 2016 The Cheq Hen that paired up with the "Grand" must have had heart failure as she was lying dead in the garden yesterday evening. Having no Hens available in the racing loft I hastily lifted a spare Ellis [Dundee] Hen from the stock loft and they have taken to each other..No mourning period for Doos..Looking at "Sandy's" problem had me asking myself ""Is Canker Hereditry"" The reason being 5 years ago I had an English pair which I had to treat for Canker and in their first round the youngsters from them had to be disposed off in the nest as they were full of it, The next round was exactly the same with not only the young having it but both parents had contracted it again so the were all bucketed..No other bird in the loft took it and when thinking back over the years the Newcombe birds had to be treated on a regular basis for the same problem. I am of the opinion that it is but still have an open mind..
peter pandy Posted June 22, 2016 Author Report Posted June 22, 2016 Littlehampton Still waiting for one to return But it was a good race for them on the result. What happened to mine ? Well perhaps they just were not good enough as 3 of the 4 sent were related so qustion marks against the parents, Perhaps my management is at fault as I dd not practice what I have been preaching however Reims will prove the pudding as they are in the best condition I could send them regarding fitness and motivation.
dal2 Posted June 22, 2016 Report Posted June 22, 2016 Best of luck peter. ..Reins will be a test for all....I am now in yer natural mode so let's see what happens
