Grizzlecock Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I'm told that pigeons don't have a sense of taste but I think they do. What does everyone else think?
Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I would think they do. If you watch them, they occasionally pick up grain and test it in their beak whilst also tasting it with their tongue, according to Old Hand. He knew everything.

greenlands Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Put something in their water that they don't like, they'll shake their heads splashing the floor round the drinker and drink less.
billt Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 They certainly choose what grains to eat first and as they don't chew it I presume it's not taste that attracts them
St Finnan Loft Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 I'm told that pigeons don't have a sense of taste but I think they do. What does everyone else think? Birds do have a sense of taste, but it is not well refined, very few taste buds compared to us.
peter pandy Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 My birds have excellent taste ! when straying they always enter top of the range lofts! No ramshackles for them as they are a bit of upper class LOL
