bigjamie Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 i had 6 from 15 when i went to the club at 2.40 not in till 1.56 not checked yet to see if there more back yet funny race and returns
Delboy Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 17/22 now, later birds are spooky, flying about for ages.
Novice Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 Ayrshire returns are poor even though they cleared the liberation site quickly. At the moment I have 2 from 9 sent and I am having a rethink now as to whether or not to race them as youngsters and simply train them. My youngsters were trained only last year and flew well as old birds. Food for thought I think.

Last year we flew east.Lanarkshire had a similar race to ourselves and Glasgow were much better liberating between us and Lanarkshire. Straight east to west along the M8 was the best young bird racing we have ever had but the majority of fanciers will not vote for that.As you know these issues are decided at AGMs and unfortunately the right to vote is not qualified by an appropriate IQ test.As you know I tend to do most of my training along the M8 as that is the safest route.

What chance do other fanciers have as I am more than certain the affected birds will carry the virus for some time.

Dont know about soda chrystals as a cure" but surly you cant be saying his birds being in the basket overnightv cause 90% of thew birds not to return home .Im sure he wont be the only one with yb sickness in the fed and most wont know they have it till birds are lost .
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 Robert, I have not raced YB's at all, sometimes not even training them, just allowing them freedom around the loft. I don't 'race' well at any time, I'm sure you could manage better results in your sleep, but my returns are usually quite good. My reasons for not racing or training them as YB's are largely down to you and your ilk. I have listened to what you have said regarding peregrines. As to soda crystals, they were an old fashioned remedy for 'going light', drying out the gut and killing the worm which caused it. How they would remedy YBS, I do not know.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 Timed at 13.11 and waited quite a while for a second pigeon, returns are now 23/25. Though its probably the worst Otterburn that Lanarkshire has experienced in all the years that we have flown from there.
