Its hard one to take mate... our team has been ruined...but lets hope fo the sake of the Ybs birds and the future of this sport surely we can all pull together and do whats right... for us pigeons isnt just a hobby .. its a way of life 365 days a year.. and has been bred into us for generations.. it tough to take when its out of ur hands... I agree something must be done across the board to insure the survival of our sport..

There are some key words in this post-----survival of the sport.

Choosing east or west of the Pennines is not the answer. The main population of Peregrines is at the home end and anyone who races into the west must face this this hazard irrespective of the route chosen.

The answer lies in a coordinated effort by fanciers and the only way we can legally do this is to restrict the food supply. This can only work if it is coordinated and the only body which can make recommendations to do this is the SHU.

At key times racing from South to North East of the Pennines when The English are racing North to South defies logic. We need to do this on different days of the week.

Best wishes to your grandfather!

Every fed should have a loft with unrung birds

These birds are given by the fed members as ybs every year and their upkeep paid for by the members. They are trained to the loft and race every week from the racepoint being released half hour before main lib.??? Thoughts? ??

After reading some of the reports on this weeks Lanarkshire race I feel my stomach turning , I hate to hear of bad races , I know some love it when it's not them , but the east isn't brilliant by any means , but think if and when Lanarkshire do go back over think we should be looking at joint libs after say 200 miles all coming into the same area, but the main thing is ,being a race controller , is it's murder trying to get birds up when u sit with 4/5/6 Feds all wanting to go north and the same or more wanting to go south just up the road , if u wanted the sky's to yourselves u would need to sit till afternoon each week ,and when it's a 7/8/9 hr race u can only wait for so long , that would sort the clashing problem , the BOP problem well , my opinion is stop race our babies when they have theirs out of the nest , either race youngsters earlier or not at all for a while and stop feeding these murdering bassa,s that's all we,re doing every year . Rant over carry on ??????

I'm sure your right Paul but when did pigeon men ever agree about anything.and as far

As stopping racing for a year is concerned there is so many feral pigeons about it wouldn't

Make that much difference it wouldn't bother the twitchers .flying rats comes to mind?.to me

The answer lies in stop giving to charities and make it quite clear why we're stopping to the

Major newspapers I know it's a drastic measure but they are forcing our hands.

I could be wrong here but I don't feel that the SNFC had great returns From Maidstone. In fact I know that returns into Ayrshire were only about 50%. There could be various reasons for this but I know I had 9 home from 15 sent. Personally I feel that the Maidstone birds went straight up the east coast sheltering from the strong westerly wind behind the hills. When the birds had to turn into the wind very few did so homing from a North easterly direction.

Therefore as far as I can see pigeons returning into a westerly location found the race very difficult irrespective of whether they were released in the east or west.

I agree with Hotrod that clashing is almost impossible to avoid when racing from the east. There is only one solution to this and that is to race North and South convoys on different days. Joint releases would help as well.

looking at the aluminium crates is there a possibility that there could be condensation created during the night in them, with heat from the birds, then the condensation getting into the birds feathers hot on cold metal shows condensation on roofs tin or plastic.. animatedpigeons.gif
