cemetary Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 keep yer thoughts tae yerself ya numpty. guy comin for that doo tha morra Dougie.thanx pal. Am hearing some big losses with the ybs, so let Percy starve for a year, not saying that Percy is to blame for all the losses, but hey, if they are feeding between 3 -4 ybs, they have to survive on something. GIRUY PAT.
andy Burgess Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 most would agree , many would say they will , but very few would actually do it
johnc Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 would be a better idea if everyone were to close lofts up for winter
cemetary Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Its about time that the fanciers took a big look on what is happening, look at the big picture now, wake up guys and smell the coffeee

GIRUY PAT. Dougie I said this about 7 or 8 years ago to stop racing all birds for 2 seasons and you could virtually wipe out the peregrines, a lot more now to wipe out.

Andy, this is whats needed with the saying, its about time fanciers wake up and smell the coffee then, because with the horrendous YB losesses so far, its only going to get worse.
hotrod Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I've been told hat an average pr of peregrines when raising young eat 3 pigeons / day , now multiply that by how many prs. That's in the uk this is why our great sport is dieing . I've not raced youngsters for a few years now and not gave them many tosses as young either I raced my yearlings out to 200/250 miles well most of them , I have around .30% of mines left as apposed to losing 50% as young and then around 30%of them that's left as yearlings . So I'm doing my bit to starve the bassas
Tony C Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 If it was decided to stop y/bird racing for a year you wouldn't get an argument from me. I fear that if racing was stopped for a year or longer the fancy would lose quite a few members to other pastimes.

Tony, i no what your saying mate, but its about time, the pigeon fancier stuck as one, rather then the individual.

That will be down to my inexperience, not knowing the quality of my birds due to starting up, etc, etc. I am slowly finding out what birds to breed from, perhaps too slowly. I have also been locking them up, but am unsure of the merits of this. I think they could do with the occasional outing during the close season.

geordie1234 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 If everyone else decides to chuck it for two seasons I would too but only if it was a nationwide lock down.......
cemetary Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 If everyone else decides to chuck it for two seasons I would too but only if it was a nationwide lock down....... A think,to help keep the doos alive within Scotland, its about time that we all stood side buye side, nae side door guys, this will only help the decline of the pigeon game.
wullybhoy Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I can see where your coming from and it might work or they might feed on something els for a while and when we go bk to racing they would start eating pigeons again. I've jst started this season and the last thing I want to do is stop for 2 seasons.
andy Burgess Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Well put it up to the members of each federation. off ye go Son , let me know how it goes for you , bye the way Cem , I don't have a chrystal ball , nor can I predict the "lottery numbers" for Saturday ,but I could bet my house on the fact my previuos statement would be abslotulety true
yeboah Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Would not do one dot of a difference ,yes the peregrine would not get our birds if locked up but they are very happy feeding on crow ,seagull and duck to name but a few ,never ever witnessed in forty years them taking a wood pigeon and never found remains at nest sites that told me otherwise .
billt Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I don't think you'll starve percy by not flying youngsters, they are that good at what they do they will always find a meal, We are the odd-balls, we have flocks of birds flying out at this time of the year, it doesn't happen in nature only in the Winter months, easy pickings for them and what do we do, breed greater numbers, just perfect for them, reduce the numbers by half of youngsters and we'll still have some left at the end of the year but our losses will be reduced

William Reid Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Dougie I will only train my young birds this year only to try and build up a team but GIRUY will hope to use that again soon
