So where have I said change the structure or programme - you could change the racepoints and still have 2 inland and the channel races - you could change the way the birds are liberated to encourage batch flying and therefore better racing and increased returns (in theory) for the sections who in 90% of the racing get it hugely tight

None of this will ever happen as any mooted change to encourage a more even send would be laughed off the table...

Behave myself? Meaning what? There were a handful of posts in 26 hours of posting on the Blue Riband race - the send is 1400..... is that good or bad in your eyes?

I quote last week post from you

Why is there a core of fanciers who will not come out of the 1900s? In thus day and age to say that National racing should only be from the continent is extremely archaic and closed-minded. We moan that the continentals are light years ahead of us yet here we are seeing posts saying there should be no such thing as inland nationals?

These so-called "blow homes" are 300-400 miles to the majority of fanciers in Scotland - you will see the Dutch,Belgians,English,Irish race nationals from MUCH SHORTER and the world falls over itself to pay top dollar for these pigeons, including Scottish fanciers.

The inland nationals have a place and are the future of racing into Scotland - my only caveat is that area libs would assist returns greatly.

When we are losing birds at 100 miles never mind 5-600 why are there so many calls for inland racing to be scrapped?? We are our own worst enemy. The sport needs to get it's rose tinted spectacles off and realise there is a place for racing at all distances.

Some feds should actually be looking at scrapping their programmes altogether for a two year period and having a series of short-middle races in order to respite the fanciers and let them build up without the pressure of having to go with the Nationals to compete in club racing. For me, the two should be separate.

Thoughts??

Think this a statement of change of program or stucture, unless I am daft?

Bahave yerself?? cos you said NOBODY SEEMED INTERESTED!!!!! disrespectful to the fanciers who send their BEST to the biggest race in Scotland??

1. SOME Fed programmes not nationals.

2. Disrespectful to nobody - my meaning was there seemed little interest on the thread, not nationally in the race in itself - I am of the opinion that the fanciers sending their vey best birds to this race will be over the moon to be involved.

Apologies for posting an opinion, I thought the forum was for fanciers to share these. Not to be told to behave or be accused of disrespecting fanciers.....

I think the marking on the same night the birds were due from Maidstone might have had an affect on the whole birdage under 1400 birds is pretty poor for our Premier race, but it has been a tough season with big losses and the dreaded Newbury took it's share of Gold Cup Candidates AGAIN, I only got 2 from 9 at Maidstone which was disappointing, high losses for me this year,I have sent 4 in tip top condition, so we will see how they go, Frankie, Carlin Bros and J.Hagg are also away, I hope they go up in the morning all these hold overs sickens the fanciers and adds to the list of negatives killing the sport at the moment, Good luck and all the best for the race.

Possible have the Inland National as a non average race , so taking the pressure of fanciers who don't really wish to send. Or just leave the inland programme to the federations and amalgamate transporter with those flying into the same area for the longer inland races.

Just a thought.

Dal I totally agree with your comments it would be brill to get 4 channel races but the weather of the last few years will

Not permit it and the chances of getting reasonable weather over 500 is slim to none in the future expect 4&5 day hold overs

From most races.sorry to paint such gloomy picture.

Don't think the averages come into it. There are only a few members who can win the averages and they are the ones who go to the longest race. It is not the fault of the SNFC that federations are opting out of their own programmes. They have given feds the option and if their members vote to include the nationals in their fed programme it is the members decision not the SNFC. The north of Scotland fed have a near 500 mile race from Battle this weekend. Every other fed in Scotland could do the same if the members wanted it enough (and were prepared to pay the cost of course)

To far for me an my birds an for a lot of fanciers as the numbers that send show s.

Far from the Rennes days of 7000 birds we have approx 1400 at Alancon.

Shocking that fanciers don't support racing from this distance but they will have birds in numbers at Ypres and the inland races, glory hunters

My own personal opinion is that Ypres is killing the gold cup numbers as fanciers see Ypres as the easy option . They should do away with Ypres then we might see the gold cup numbers rise . I wander if there would own up as to taking the easy option ??
