budgie Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Words of Wisdom from Walter take heed unhealthy pigeons dont return or win races.
walterboswell59 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 So you reckon to the coast? or over the water??ive scored in every eastbourne national ive flown in george with yearlings and have a very good record in our fed longest inland race maidstone wincanton salsbourgh with yearlings but i was trying to find them out now that i know the ones that are breeding them and that they can do it i wont be so hard on them but any off new matings go every race to the coast and if i thought a yearling was right id send it across the water but thats if you can afford to lose it if its your best yearling you might want some youngsters off it first m8
Delboy Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 So you reckon to the coast? or over the water?? Ive only ever sent yearlings across the water twice and once with a latebred. One yearling was 1st open Sartilly West Coast Combine in a north wind, 15 half hours on wing 510 miles. ( NEVER RACED AS A YB )The latebred was timed 7.25pm from YPRES. THEY VE EITHER GOT IT OR THEYVE NOT If I was sitting with a big team I would be making sure they earn there perch
walterboswell59 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Got to agree, with them numbers I bet the ones off yer best are the ones that go all the way! I have tried to nurse yearlings along, giving them maybe 250 as yearlings then trying to get to the water as 2yr old, and my success rate is low!im still learning to dal across the water is a whole new ball game lol
geordie1234 Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 21/23 after checking the loft tonight plus a 2 year old lost from last week
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Been trying yearlings across the water the last two years. Only managed one on a SNFC result that was Clermont 2011 Will keep trying but found so far they won't beat any of the older birds we send. On the other hand getting themselves home in decent time maybe sets them up well for the following year as all our first birds from Alencon, Ypres and Clermont in 2012 were 2010 bred pigeons that flew Belgium or France in 2011. Will never know if they'd have still been the first birds to the loft if they'd flown to the coast instead as yearlings.

THEY VE EITHER GOT IT OR THEYVE NOT If I was sitting with a big team I would be making sure they earn there perch thats a must for me del as i am not making money so this may be my last year of having a big team m8 as i will not be able to afford to keep them so might be selling at the end of season and it will break my f k g hart the money ive spent on them thirteen thousand to louella to build this team and the work i have put into them its making me sick just thinking about it plus nearly 700 pounds at kerr stainthorpes to cross them to get the old west section distance blood into them but ive not regreted spending one penny of of it the pleasure i got out of them has been great plus they have won me back nine grand in pools and prize money to date andi have 16 pair of stock birds that have bred 68 firsts between them with 14 first west sections fed and over 20 national diplomas so ive had my fun with them but it wont make it any easier for me m8
JOHNSEE Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 well done Davy but he needs to start to get the birds up at 4.30 am as that is the race times, for national flying get the birds used to what is expected of them, now that we have a new race controlling team lets get it put into practice as i say what the national demands, bigda as is I would question that you are not at your loft each morning at04-30.
