The situation will be reviewed again next week.I will post the most up to date race programme tomorrow.
tyson Posted April 9, 2013 Author Report Posted April 9, 2013 this is realy going to muck up racecontrollers guide as feds are not going to be where they should be bloody weather
walterboswell59 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 i think some feds jumped the gun a bit should have waited a bit nearer the time not talking about the ones that were starting early they had to but to cancell a race thats 2 or 3 weeks away i cant fathom people are taking computer forcasts as fact and the truth is after 48 hours its only a guess as forcasters have admitted this you cannot beat the old way of phoneing down the line and speaking to people on the day as the computer forcasts are very offten not up dated from a friday night and again its only the forcasters or readers opinion of what they think will happen you cannot beat speaking to guys enroute in mop
tyson Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 sorry cant agree with you walter as the one I use I pay for and 9/10 it is pretty accurate but all forcasts can change within 24hrs the one I use predicted weather would change around 14th april once the jet stream started to move north with s.westerly winds with possible some showers but will definatly get warmer
walterboswell59 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 yes m8 my fed used to pay for one and we held over on days we could have had a race did not give us enything different from what was forecast on tv news imo

bullcock Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Glasgow still on for the 20 th April .I would have liked the program to be put back at least one week, most people wouldn't have had their birds out for the whole of march, I don't think they will be ready. Regardless of this years weather, I would like the program moved 1 or 2 weeks every year, the world we live in now is not what it used to be 20 - 30 years ago and we need to move with the weather. I'm fed up waiting on birds in near winter conditions for the first few races with a wooly hat on freezing, there is no pleasure for me or the birds.JMO
Walter swanston Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Quite right Bullcock, climate change is upon us wether we like or not.I have said for several years now that pigeon racing in Scotland should not be contemplated until the first week in May, but in trying to argue this case I am afraid I am a voice in the wilderness fanciers are very much against innovation as the claim is that it's always been done this way so why change .Change is upon us gentlemen so get used to it
Roundo Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Haven't heard if my own Fed (Scottish Central) are still going on the 20th.I don't think it would do any harm to put it back a week, just my opinion.

I have a mate who waited on his birds at the first race last year with a hot water bottle slung round his neck beneath his jacket.
DJL Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Angus Fed scheduled to start on 27th April at Arniston
walterboswell59 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 i can remember it snowing while waiting on birds from annan our 1st race over 30 years ago i let my birds out every day all year and will be trained up and ready for our first race on the 20 th its up to the rest to be ready to if you think its to cold for your birds dont go simple as that its your choice not to be ready some have been training for weeks with no problems

Timed a cheq cock bred by Henry mair of Irvine . Think Feds did jump the gun a bit surely it would have been better to leave the racing as it was and let the race controllers decide wether to go or not ?
walterboswell59 Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 no and nether would i alan so you keep they ones in the hut i use late breds and they will be stopped at 150 mile and put by till next year m8forgot to say i have allso been 2nd club kelso 5th sect and 1st maidstone 4th sect 12th open with a yearling trained from the 2nd week in feb and had droped it 5th flight and won 600 pounds in pools in maidstone open race so a lot depends on the birds themselves you can train a distance family to sprint you cant train a sprinter to do the distance but theres allway the excetion m8 tail winds and such

hotrod Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 The problem with that Stuart is if you decide to not go, will the program freeze or carry on, missing a race?Forcing birds to jump the following week.We could do as. AV fed does. Saturday /Wednesday/ Saturday/Wednesday. Until they catch up .
