andy Burgess Posted October 6, 2012 Author Report Posted October 6, 2012 for some no unknown reason they are only ever good for the stock loft the odd ones do fly well but very rarely yes ,am aware of that ,had a few last year that didnt make it . had some in 2010 back in Wales that had only 2 x 3 milers in year of birth .1 went on to score well at the distance ,is now in the stock loft breeding winners .looking for another amongst these , we can but hope .
peter pandy Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Sent 26 late breds 20+ miles fortnight ago, nothing on the day, 10 back singly the next day and 1 on the Monday badly torn up. I will think a lot of them as they have had to think for themselves.

peter pandy Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Andy, When you have a toss with late breds such as the one I had then you should have little to worry about as they will be hard to lose next year
billt Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 glad you got some home Peter , i was told a long time ago ,try and lose them ,those that do make it will repay you. It's a hard call that one, if you could do a re-run next week would the result be the same, I have my doubts
peter pandy Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 When I went for that toss I put 14 in one basket which I was not enamoured with and put them up at Carstairs. I got 1 home on the Monday from that basket. The other basket had 12 which I fancied and liberated at Carnwath 10 of them made it home on the second day.
b.massey Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 It's a hard call that one, if you could do a re-run next week would the result be the same, I have my doubts Yeah i'd have to agree its a tough call.... The best one in the batch was maybe the one the BOP nailed. Or the one that was badly injured and unable to return. Dont think its always the bad ones to be lost. On another day it could be totally diff pigeons missing
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 yes ,am aware of that ,had a few last year that didnt make it . had some in 2010 back in Wales that had only 2 x 3 milers in year of birth .1 went on to score well at the distance ,is now in the stock loft breeding winners .looking for another amongst these , we can but hope . The last late breds I had were in 2007 - 2 late bred hens, they were trained with the old birds in March 2008 - and had 4 training races with the young birds in August 2008 Their 1st proper races wasn't until April 2009, one scored in a very bad race (was our only bird back on the day) one had minor positions (both are in the stock loft now one having bred a 1st and a 2nd fed and the other a 2nd fed to date) Any other latebreds we have had that have been raced the year following their birth have all been lost
andy Burgess Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 It's a hard call that one, if you could do a re-run next week would the result be the same, I have my doubtswe will never know Bill , there test was yesterday .2 of my (harder to lose buschearts) were the only ones home. 09
