Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 last year the first two tosses our youngsters had were single ups.Still can't make up my mind if it was a good idea or not
maverick Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I done this a few years ago 5 mins between them when i got home wife told me they nearly all came together never done that again
b.massey Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I think its a waste of time. I do it for old birds but never yb. They are babies. Need to learn to walk before they run. Plus as people said previous they seem to still meet up and come in groups
blue pied Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 Anyone single up youngsters?if you have 30 youngsters and 5 mins apart =30 x 5 =150= 2hrs 30mins is along time to sit and put doos up
big blue bar Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 your better trying them in twos and threes , cause how many times do you get a big batch together in a race maybe the first two races never after that
dal2 Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 if you have 30 youngsters and 5 mins apart =30 x 5 =150= 2hrs 30mins is along time to sit and put doos upAnd 5mins aint enuff young man!!! In this day and age in pigeonland we just want them home as babies with as little stress as pos so that they are not PIG SEEK before they even start????I am seriously thinkin of training then keepin half to race sparingly as yearlings???

JohnQuinn Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I never put mine up in singles, neither do i ever toss them all together. 51 Yb's = 3x 17. As the program lengthen and the numbers dwindle i toss them in 6's. For all the good it does its no harming them. The idea is that every bird has to think and not just follow on, whether that is right is questionable but i get along ok
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 Anyone single up youngsters?Would love to have the time to do it George, learning them to think for there selves can only be good for them.I know Jim C single tossed his young birds one or two years from 45 miles and as old birds he had more than his fair share of success with these young birds that where single tossed.
dava Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 read an article years ago about a mr and mrs magall from ireland who were at the top at that time they trained there young birds in batches of 10 there reason for training them like this was to create a leader in every batch and they could race young birds
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I quite liked the Martin Mitchell method of training youngsters again though its very time consuming and perhaps not worthwhile in areas where young bird racing isnt top of the agenda. He as early as possible tried to work out his best youngsters "leaders" and the worst "followers" by letting them go in groups of four. the ones he felt were the best were constantly promoted up the groups until eventually the best 4 were let go together, the 2nd best 4,3rd best 4 etc etc. The best ones in theory would get better as they were only flying with the best and the out and out followers would be lost or removed if improvement wasn't shown. Its all theory I suppose at the end of the day and the leaders will probably still be leaders and followers still followers regardless of batch size.
yeboah Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I found when training darkness youngsters from say 25 mls and working them on a widowhood method that when they are spot on health wise i could lib the hens in 3's then the young cocks in 3's and they would all clear immediately and arrive home in that order if they got a clear run ,jmo but i have always been of the belief that youngsters that circle have a health issue and most times its respiratory when they are a1 they dont circle jmo
Wiley Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 When your youngsters are right a full basket opened, and birds out without circling heading straight for home is when they are right and on the ball, get your youngsters like that then there's nothing to worry about.
lanarkshire lad Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I believe good pigeons are BORN and not made by any amount of single tossing.Thats my opinion for what its worth.
billt Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I believe good pigeons are BORN and not made by any amount of single tossing.Thats my opinion for what its worth. Yes I'm with that, you can't train a pigeon to be good only to be fit
