sapper756 Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 I don,t particularly hold much faith for late breds, how ever, with the heavy losses of youngsters at this early stage of the season, I was wondering, if any members were breeding late breds to compensate for their losses in order to have yearling for next year? If so, will you be training them through the winter months, and race them as yearlings? has anyone had much success with latebreds in the past? THANK YOUhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

lanarkshire lad Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 For some strange reason some of my best pigeons over the years have been latebreds,my first ever win in 1974 was a latebred.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 I had a pair of cracking June bred yearling cocks coming well this season. Biggest regret of the season was sending them to Ypres

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Did they have any training as young birds ? Gave them 5 tosses as babies. One from Livingston(approx 15miles).One from Roberton and Peebles which are roughly 30 mile and one from Stow and Dunbar which are 40odd mile. They had 9 races this year to Huntingdon(286 miles)and they were hardly ever out the first half dozen to the loft.I sent them to Ypres and have never seen them since We live and learn

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Ok thank you for that Was told by the master to always take some youngsters in June off your best pigeons. The doos should be in their best condition all year at this time. Its obviously warmer and the days are at their longest so they are getting fed more etc. Got half a dozen cuttin aboot just now.I'll no throw them away next year though as I did this season

Roland Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Best thing for any loft. Can be a patient game grated. Late Jube bred birds flew 470 miles and set First in September. A september bred won the Scottish averages on her own next year... Best birds bred in the purple of weather and feeds... Left to sit around the loft, the odd toss on warm fine days. One or two 100, ot 150 mile races first year and watch them go the next season. Folks say rot like 'Heavy losses' but are definately not as heavy as January - February youngsters that get lost!
Guest stb- Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 BIGDA WAS A LATEBREED HE HAD A BAD TRAINER AT EUROCNTRAL SO THEY KEEP HIM AT HAME NOW
Guest tyke Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 6 in the nest now i plan to train them up through winter
