WulDon Posted December 26, 2010 Author Report Posted December 26, 2010 Merry Christmas to everybody that has been following this post... wee update on the training races to date. Training Race 04 was on 22nd December from Playa Abades, a distance of 25km when 2344 birds were relaesed at 1320 hrs, leading arrivals were at 26 minutes. 1980 pigeons made it on the day working right up till 1836 hrs, with more pigeons over the following three days with returns now at 2211. Glad to say 9 of my entries arrived 1st day with the tenth next morning, so once again was delighted at that.... i beleive they have been getting pestered by falcon attacks when liberated which would explain the scattered returns. Next training race is tomorrow from 30km.... keep ya posted.

WulDon Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 seems that they have been getting attacked by falcons no wonder a few are missing ye, during training 04 they were hit by four falcons, youngsters were still returning to lib site 35 minutes later a bit disorientated... today training race went quite well but still over 100 pigeons missing, wonder if something similar has happened?? nine of my entries are home once gain, hopefully no.10 turns up in the morning...
Guest tom123 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 this is my first year of entering the arona olr , but at least by having a live feed and theres birds away ,theres an explanation which is backed up via the film of the liberation to show why theres birds missing

frank-123 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 seems that they have been getting attacked by falcons no wonder a few are missing that is terrible but it shows what happens to our birds on a weekly basis and we still say it clashing

WulDon Posted December 28, 2010 Author Report Posted December 28, 2010 that is terrible but it shows what happens to our birds on a weekly basis and we still say it clashing ye it quite brutal to see a convoy of pigeons being attacked like this, not by one falcon but by four! more so just minutes after being liberated...
Guest mick bowler Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 ye it quite brutal to see a convoy of pigeons being attacked like this, not by one falcon but by four! more so just minutes after being liberated... I saw this last year, so you have to wonder if the organisers of this race have the birds good being at heart. Surely if this is a problem they have to look at changing the training process, the same as anyone else (like myself) has a constant problem with BOP. Rather than one big batch, let them go in smaller batches, ok the falcons will still get their feed, but it doesnt scare the sh** out of the whole loft, and pigeons know that the smaller the group the better the chance, you can see that the way they react in different group sizes. The other thing is almost how the organisers "champion" this type of thing in declaring the "hardest OLR in the world", focusing on the winners, but at what cost to all those that went down geting to the final race? Again seems not to matter when the £'s are involved.
greenlands Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Bloody disgusting, what else can one say,it's bad enough been hit with one of those but four. These things will finish our sport if they aren't sorted.
