depends on union rules but im sure it's says for R.P.R.A that all birds presented for racing should be wing stamped , so even if have phone rings on they don't comply with there rules , most outdated , i could be wrong but thats how i see it :)

RPRA rule 121 wing stamp on at least 3 flights or telephone ring, does not need to have both.

suppose the ink on the wing will weigh less than the ring on the leg ;)

hi i am in the shu scottish homing unoin can i just use rings

The use of telephone ring instead of a wing stamp is within SHU Rules but it does add (not correct wording) 'that it is at discretion of the club / fed / organisation.'

I asked same question when I first joined my club, but nobody ever got back to me. IMO ring is much easier, and can be easily removed for SNFC YB race.

yes thats why i have ordered it cant be good for birds trying to get the stamps off befor sending to a national

you don't take the stamp off you just make it unreadable with a marker pen etc the bird will moult the flight out no harm done,i think they carry enough rings with their birth ring on 1 leg and the ets ring on the other

if a ring stops the bird from winning theres sommit far wrong and they take the ring off anyway for the national young bird race :D

who says it stops the bird from winning  i just said my personal preference is that a bird with 1 ring on either leg is enough if you want to make the bird uncomfortable carrying endless amount of rings when a single wing stamp which i've already said is easily wiped out is more than adequate, why don't you put a numbered ring on it aswell to let you know which nestbox it was reared in :P

If your putting an ETS ring on the bird have you considered using the telephone number stickers that go straight onto the ETS ring, used them for 2 years myself and would now not use anythink else, they come in different colours too so can have different colour for each section etc.

Martin, the downside with the wing stamp is that it is a two-person job, on & off, one holding the pigeon wing extended, the other stamping. Don't think the bird likes it either. Telephone ring is single person job, very simple to slip on & off.

Take your point tho about number of rings birds carry; 2011 will be our first year to correct that using the new combi ring, one ring ID & ETS chip, for the YBs.

ritchi do like i do -telephone sticker on ets ring, both wings stamped and stamped across its tail and when they go missing they are never reported but you have done your best.
