is there a need to have these national races coming up in the next few weeks

considering the losses many fedrations have been having over the last few years the turnout might be very low this year again

ican understand where you are coming from frank but fortunatley for our fed we have had good enough returns so far . got to admit the ybn is exciting cause you dont know what to expet with the youngeens and i dare say even though some feds have had bad losses there will still be a good turn out to the ybn when it comes .

i think the race should go ahead otherwise where do we stop? well-feathered, fit youngsters are able to compete. Maybe it should be 150 miles the shortest flyers that would make it an hour to 90 mins less flying and more "reachable" - problem is we see the Dutch doing 350-400 miles and try to emulate them. They have a flat country we have huge mountains and valleys to navigate.

The SNFC is a club and like other clubs they will finish their program as others have.

Its entirely the individual fanciers choice to send on a week to week basis or not, we will all have the same individual choice to make come the Yb SNFC race. Like every other week some will send while others choose not to, for a variety of reasons not just losses. jmo

The YB National is very hard here in the west BUT, I wouldnt miss it for the world. I have been fortunate enough to win my section twice as well as scoring many times over the years from this race so my own bias opinion is WE MUST KEEP IT. :D:D

Use to promote the race to every fancier that i would see, not now though as it has become a bit of a graveyard especially into the west, Will send 6 in a couple of weeks as i like to compete in all SNFC races.

Maybe as it has been discussed before there should be 2 semi liberation national winners - South and West, East and North and also shorten it down so that the shortest flier in each lib is flying 160 miles.JMO

I think the y/b national should remain ,i fly 353 miles and love it as many others do ,it is the same as any other race if you have the birds and a touch of luck on your side

It is the only YB race in which all of Scotland can compete so I wouldn't like to see it end. Agree Fed returns will affect the birdage. Not going this year, my birds are now too far along in the moult, so that's me finished till next year.

Never raced the YBN however I may have a go this year,

For the fanciers that do send to this race and score, do you find that these y/birds go on to make good old birds or do your better old birds come through y/birds that may have been stopped racing earlier in the programe.

Also, for the fanciers that send, do you send your best to this race or do you send the y/birds that fel need to earn their perch for the following year,i.e. they have made mistakes at earlier races or their parents have been lost during the old bird racing.

Just like your thoughts as I think people will use the race for different purposes.

I timed 2 together last year to be 6th and 7th west region. As yearlings, one of them got lost at an early race and the other scored in the SNFC Ypres ( 456 miles )ps. she should have scored very high in result but thats another story. :(

My point is, some go on to win as obs and some dont, just the same as any other yb.

Most of the YBs that have scored for me at the YB National have went on to score at the channel

I like to send as many as possible every year as i think it is a good race to find them out.

I an not interested next year but I might rearrange mating times or have darkness youngsters next year to have a go.

There are those who specialize in this event so why not continue provided the support is there.

if you want to sort them out send everything. if you want to score you have to send your best. a good doo is a good doo whether they go to the ybn or not makes no difference as old birds jmo
