A poor programme, our longest race 510 miles.... yer havin a laugh :( :-/

Not having a laugh Chris, I put this programme on p.b so people can discuss it well before AGM. Then they can come to AGM and change to whatever suits. This programme was put up by the SNFC committee after several votes. You know as well as me, the AGM decides everything but if people dont turn up then the SNFC recommendations stand. :-/

Do you not think doos should be given a chance to make it on the day.. they can clock as far up as the North section on the day, so why force a two day race..

Also i remember reading a loft report, think it might even be in roads to rome.. anyway the fancier said something along the lines of ''you wouldn't expect Linford Christie to beat Roger Black over 400m.. but if he raced him twice over 200m, who would you expect to win..??"

Is that not playing more in to the sprinters hands.. rather than true distance National racing..?? jmo

Very interesting point made here ;)

i do not think there should be any inland races for national positions minimum distance 500mls max 650 i.e. 500..540..650...500 true national flying

i think your are totally right there  duncandoo,  any one in the national should be voting  for this 500-650 if they don't vote for this then,  you are not distance fanciers at all,  and would be better off  at home  with the lanarkshire  ;)

just looked at the ware lib site on google earth in my opinion does not look suitable for a large liberation a lot of trees around car park has anybody from the snfc actually checked the lib site??

Tyson,

You can race Wanstead Flats with the other lot, or have you fallen out with them too. Ware is a few miles from  Harlow about 310-315 for me. The WDA race from there with more birds than us, so Lib point will be fine. Good programme with the races on different weeks. Maybe the 600 mile guys would want to go further than Andrezel. Just got to get the basketting times sorted for the guys who work.

Andy, its hard enough running things without trying to cater for everyones working hours. If we did that we wouldnt have any national races.Remember, the boys in the north start marking there birds around midday on some occasions. What about folk on backshift etc, we just have to make arrangements to suit the marking times. The other problem we have got is marking a day later in order to have one day less in the basket. Although, I personally am in favour of this, it doesnt suit the SNFC logisticly, because there are too many marking stations and too many deadlines to make. This may suit other organisations with only a couple of marking stations to pick up but the SNFC really struggle with it. jmo

Very true Derek, its upto the members to get to the AGM and fine tune the programme

seems to me that these inland races are taking birds away from the channel races especialy in lanarkshire where these races are now a part of the fed program if any one of these two inland races are disasters the gold cup entry could be even lower than it was this year and forces national flyers in lanarkshire to find other alternatives to set there birds up going with other feds e.t.c

It may be that these restricted hours / marking stations stop more birds being sent to the channel races. I know of only one member of my own local club who sends to all the Nationals, most go only to the Inland, and at best the Gold Cup and our Combine Race [Falaise].

The current logistics may not be the best either. Scotland lends itself to a hub & spoke system, with the natural hub being Mossend International Terminal, situated in West Central Scotland, Lanarkshire. That could also be the site of the principal marking station for Central Scotland, with the transporter based there. Short ferry in from Aberdeen & Solway. Transport direct to the continent by rail in hours, not days.

Hi Lads

Ware area has many qualities to the Location including being a similar distance to Newbury, it's situated well from the motorway network, outside the M25 which results in no congestion charges and also it gives the Scottish pigeons a good line of flight through 2 busy airports i.e. Stansted and Luton airports. The RPRA approved site at Ware is not good enough for me and how it got approved for any sort liberation is amazing therefore i and other organisations are at present looking for something better for our pigeons within the same area.

Hope this clarifies things

cheers

Gareth

Surely the inland races are used by the majority of members to enable birds to gain time on the wing before sending them across the channel, also to educate birds that have never been across the channel previously??

That for me is the only downside with feds going with the SNFC to the inland nationals.

The only way i can see the birdage going up in the gold cup is for some federations to make the gold cup their fed channel race which i think we in Lanarkshire should do as i think more people would send their doos to the gold cup if it was included in a fed programme ...What's peoples thoughts on this 1??

ps.......I know it's to late for this coming season but what about the future??

earliest time to get up would be 4-30 am -5 am  if they never got away at that time hold till 1pm simple, one out all out at 540 miles, on a  15 hr race  on  a day like that the shortest flyer should  be  3hrs from the race in the morning and that should  componsate, for the endever of your birds ;) ;)to make  the push for home :o

Programme seems ok to me apart from andrezel which i think is too short for the longest race. surely we can get convoying to somewhere like tours, niort or somewhere around 600 miles to central belt on one of three weekends, i.e 3rd 10th or 17h July and switch the other races to suit. dont agree with suggestion of 2 races on same weekend

bigda i know theres no chance of a 4'30 lib but why not 5am after all the hrs of dakness is 4'30am but letting them up with no chance of getting them i;e 7;30 8am theres no chance at 600+miles

i hear what you are saying, but ain't  the national at  distances of 540 mile suppose to give all  the paying customers  a chance of timing in  on the  day,  but the results over the years  has changed,  for more than half of  the convoy,  has  next day birds, for some sections, in all fairness and i think it should be  in the interest of distance racing, go by the  distance fanciers  in the race,  if the bird can  make it inside the 15 hr mark  early libs to suit it,  if   it cant get a opening  from that on the day, well late lib 1 pm  so as all birds have a night out  thats the fairest way i would think

Obviously this is a discussion thread to make members aware of the proposals before the agm.

Both now and in the future all organisations will be trying to economise on convoying expenses--that is common sense.

Having said all this I firmly believe that racing from Andrezel with the UNC will never provide a National winner in the West.

For West section fanciers we will only ever be competing for section prizes from this racepoint.
