greenlands Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Hi 6 out of 29 with Lanarkshire The MacAloneys had a bird reported at 3.00 pm from todays race at MARYPORT only the Irish sea stopped it going to Ireland PIG SICK Homer 49 I live in Dearham about 2/3 mile from Maryport, having no pigeons away this week I went to my mates lof to watch his arrival. Our birds obviusly follow the coast route (West) with the wind that there was that's what we expected. There were batches of birds coming out of the Lakes which is South East. These bird were not stopping and I remarked that they must be Scottish birds.Could these have been yours ??????? This was around 13:00 to 13:45 hrs. Lindsay.

Delboy Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Do you still have the strays if so what were there ring numbers, We're still missing 59 pigeons.. No m8, they cleared off shortly after I got mine in.
Novice Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 I agree that clashing is the most likely cause of these losses. This would best be investigated by someone sitting down with pen and paper and plotting where all the feds were in the area and times of liberation. They may need to make a few enquiries but it may be a worthwhile exercise. It will never bring the birds back but may serve as a lesson for the future. It might be a worthwhile exercise that all feds who use the BHW service to provide historical feedback on when they liberated to allow investigations if required. Now---I believe there is some type of communication monitoring station to the north of Harrogate. I have photographs of this cannot remember the exact location. It is a collection of huge spherical recievers or transmitters---could there have been abnormal operations here today? I sympathise with all who have been dealt a hammer blow today. The establishment to which I refered is the FYLINGDALES Balistic Missile Tracking Station. Google it and have a look. These are huge radar devices. I wonder if any abnormal activity from here could interfere with homing instinct. It's not new and has been there from 1960 I think. I think the name Menwith hill also refers.
