  1. I take, that only those in a prominent location want just one section in Feds. Won't bother to say any more, except look at the locations for oneself. Yes will have a few spouting that they are in a favourable position and wouldn't mind no inner sections ... Yeah Right! Can't have a level playing field that's for sure, but has been one of the biggest and fundamental damage to our sport ... Protection corners and 'Bully for us and stuff them! I know, just put the money in our coffers and shut up! P.s. in one club I have a favourable location now. Fed wise not so, but I get any merit going that my PIGEONS EARN! walterboswell59 saying '.... correct imo danny same way there can be 50 or more birds in fav positions in a snfc race before the section winner of other sections time in the wind and loft position determins where the bulk of the open positions will be allways has allways will and the odd bird that is the acception to the rule and wins once in 20 or 30 year against the wind gives the guys that sit in the best positions the amo to spout there crab so and so done it in nineteen canteen which they think makes it all ok theres good pigeons and good pigeon men in every section fed and national but for open positions in both your loft location is everything lets not be kidded'M says it all!
  2. KingBilly says '.......not if some one was in the rong section to start with' And the point being? Certainly not that one wants to give credit for other good performances in a different location I fear. Being it National down to Club level it is, and has been for far too long one protection their corner and wanting all the glory with no thought or feeling for other achievements.
  3. Simple answer to '.... why have sections in the fed' is to give decent performances merit on the East side. Simple really. Location, Location Location OR wind takes away most weeks the credit of many deserving birds and their performances. Our fe, for example had separate liberations for the shorter races AND always had two sections. Yes an overall position too granted. Some great flyers on the West side gain the merit their birds performance's merited each week. Like wise the East section in East weeks.... Gosh how the wind and location was show to be such a factor nigh every week. So it is a good thing and ALL decent size feds should have sections.

  9. So sorry and sad. I feel for you. Time for friends and family to rally round ... They can't say much and often one doesn't want them too, but just to be there, supporting is very up lifting when words are often to no avail.
  10. Well the RSPB have altered their' website claims after 'You forgot the Birds' campaign group... a group of shooting enthusiasts of which Sir Ian Botham is a member. They disputed the RSPB's claims of donating 90 pence in the £1 to their conservationist work. They didn't, nor have they replied to 'You forgot the Birds' etc. but admit that the former claims could have been misleading. They now claim that they spend 90% of the net income on conservation, adding this proves that they are passionate in spending your money on what matters most for nature. So that's is that then. etc.
  11. Good idea ... except the money has nothing to do with the RPRA or any governing body.

    Winter

A nurse, wife of John Tranter - a gold cup winner - told him to just go to a chemist and buy some Isogel --- is used for loosen the bowels etc. Did his birds the world of good. He had regularly wormed, and tried this not long after their last dose. As he said he'd never seen anything like it, they were hang of the perches and loads on floor. Only need to mix a little in anything you wish to make a cake for them. Oat cake etc. for example. I bought Ispagel, same family.

    Winter

Good clean feed and water. Later on I may make a Isagel cake for worming. That's if I feel that they aren't sustaining the conditional, or not holding or losing weight. Best wormer out and if they have worms etc. you will see them hanging of the perches etc. Haven't seen any, to be honest the last couple of time I made one, so all was good. But have brought in some new birds so will be watching / Observing them. Don't know I wormed them before really ... just a fad I guess... last time was 3 years ago.

    Rpra

One does have to be a pigeon mate to do the job. Nor to have the best interests at heart for the fancy. Must be diplomatic though, far seeing, and have an capability of 'Insights' coupled with common-sense.
  17. ' ....would sugest much the same as peter no food or water in old loft and rattle a tin with a few stones nice and loud when birds go in to it Agree, only feed and water in new loft. Leave loft traps open so that they can go in and out and feel confident and safe in new loft. Of course they will go back to old loft, but we quickly learn where they wish to be. Only way ever a birds is broken is when they like the new loft more. Where they can feel free and safe. They will soon learn when let out of new loft where their feed will be. Would take to new loft of course for feed and allowed to fly out...
  18. Need a few more still to help protect nigh ALL birds.
  19. True, it would appear Bigda lol. But then that post didn't come out before the other one lol. However, it appears that Sanpo and co are actually gaining actual knowledge and legislations in this regards ... and for reasons not exactly for the Pigeon Fanciers' benefit. By the way, the Sanpo reply etc. I posted is dated 17th October, and not the 1st of August.
  20. I placed this on the 17th when it was passed... http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/topic/77480-funny-or-not/

    Gravel

Brighton beach ! Or such lol. Will mean nipping down and a lot of shovelling. Must be a better and cheaper way. Think I'd have trays under 'Duck Boards. Sloping to a Gravel hole filled with three foot of gravel. A soak away.
  22. I had to copy it out lol. And missed the part confirming that the racing pigeons etc. are listed under the Aliens and invasive species of National Environmental Management: But have it of course. 13th October 2014 The President: SANPO By Email: *********** Dear Mr. ************** Re: National list nof invasive Bird Species. The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs published in the Government Gazette number 37886 a list of Aliens and invasive species of National Environmental Management : Biodiversity Act No 10 of 2004 (later referred to as the act). Columba livia, the pigeon species used in races is listed under category 3 of the aforementioned list. It is therefore a prohibited activity as defined in the aforementioned act to:- 1. Import into the Republic, including introducing from the sea, any species of a listed invasive species; 2.Grow, breed or in any other way propagate any specimen of a listed invasive species, or causing to multiply: 3. Convoy, move or otherwise translocate any specimen of a listed invasive species; 4. Sell or otherwise trade in, buy, give, donate or accept as a gift, or in any way acquire or dispose of any specimen of a listed invasive species. It is also a prohibited activity as defined in nRegulation6 to:- 1. Spread or allow spreading of any species of a listed invasive species; 2. Release any specimen of a listed species. Considering the points above, we would like to bring it to SANPO and it's member's attention that any activities in contravention of the act will be reported to the mentioned department, Your cooperation in this regards is highly appreciated. Kind Regards Tshebo Sebake National Council of SPCAs.... Etc. etc.
  23. Can't delete, and having problems copying the rulings at the moment. But will put them up soon.
  24. I have just received this ... make of it as you will. I don't know how to open and place them on here. But have deleted some personal names as I believe that is only right. Hence will now copy and paste the relevant and entire content of what has been ruled on by the S. African body of the equivalent of Dafra etc. Fw: National List of Invasive Bird Species †From:  ***** ****** This sender is in your contact list. 25. If it was a DEFRA Office that the fancier contacted to report a suspected paramyxo outbreak, their vets only test for paramyxo, and if they don't find it, then they are finished with the fancier and his birds - they don't look for anything else. This is of course an absolute truth. They have to act and deal quickly with an out break that they have put laws into place. Especially ones that have to be adhered to and taken seriously and noted. They can't be expected to go through any and every one's loft at a drop of the hat and sort out any and every ailment. That they leave to the responsible fancier ... or not so responsible as the case may be. Common sense and a reality I feel. Once detected, or not, then they of course will answer accordingly as to Parra etc. Not cankerer, thrush, salmonella etc.
