  1. Open hole flys in the face of some of the posts above I believe. Have no problem where and when they want in and out.... unless Vic is treating me up the pub lol ;D ;D ;D
  2. Vic... in reply to I was stating that even Vets have very little savvy! as it was off colour, one would have thought the Vet would have retained it! Then contacted me. Knew better that to just let it go. Further at least watered it! Apparently what worried them - would you adam and eve it - was it's eyes were blinking fairly regular. Lack of water :-/ But at least if concerned enough to phone me, they could have kept it for me to collect. I've collected many as an 'Animal Rescue' member .... no longer am, but the Vets and Police still have my number to phone....

    foolish or ?

If not flying enough .... whatever that means, and what standard, I'd watch them very closely. Could well be that they have toxin in their blood. Worst thing then is enforced flying! Their very demeanour should tell you the sytate of their mind and body. If alert and winking when you first enter the loft. Do the take off with arc necks and clapping and with zest? etc. etc. But me, from the sounds of it would leave them home.
  4. From the pigeon Vet: There is a lot of useful information there but it's for the human intestine. Organisms that are selected for use in the intestines of pigs are derived from pigs, those for birds from the intestines of birds and so on. For pigeons I believe firmly that we need to use an avian-source probiotic. I think Flight Path is one of these, and I've longed to try it in my birds, however it's not available in *******. So I use PrimaLac, an avian-derived group of organisms. This product is now available in the UK from Dave Hawkins of Yorkshire in partnership with Mark Evans also of Yorkshire.
  5. Had the Vets phone me to say a pigeon that they had caught and released was not good. It was a y/b bird. Said it had flown upon the adjacent roof :-/ :o Said it would clear but they were so concerned I did the 'Right Thing' and went and looked.... it had cleared and they were very red faced and appoligetic :B
  6. Has happen 2 - 3 times as I know of in this area. Used to be a time when all the crates were checked and any birds in them shooed out, and eggs collected. Rpra ruling came out that the birds were to be brought back and delivered to the club, as they knew they weren't right or not up to it.
  7. Van Der Pluckers, alll distances.
  8. Now I agree with that 100%.... but know one or two that train before they go ranging.... have heard their reasoning but can't get t grips with that. Best time, as far as I'm concerned is after they have been ranging and are roof hopping. With my old stock I could then just send the for 3 chucks the week of the race, three different direction, 2 of 30 miles or so and a 65 miler on the Thursday. But am quickly re learning a few things I'd forgot, so in this new learning curve will be training them up to the 20 miles and then 20 miles every day in all and any direction.
  9. Sad day Ted.... Have missed you of late as yoiu know, indeed most I'd say on here. Get better and stay in touch Roland
  10. Great idea. Mate did that all his flying life with great results. Further Nationals have been won flying to rabbit hutches.
  11. Have posted before, and everyone to their own Quoted from a world renowned Vet, and pigeon fancier '................. Roly: Yoghurt as a probiotic for pigeons - it's my understanding that the organisms in yoghurt are meant for the human digestive tract, and as such, they don't colonise the intestines of pigeons very well. The second point is that, according to a human pediatric gastro-enterologist whose seminar I attended not long ago, 90% of the organisms (if not ALL) in commercial yoghurt are dead when the product is purchased. So the product would not appear to be as useful for the digestive tract of either humans or pigeons as we'd like to think. (Home-made yoghurt might be an viable alternative. Preparation kits are often available in specialty shops and may reduce costs substantially.) This specialist recommended (for humans) to purchase acidophilus capsules from the refrigerator case in food or specialty stores, and NOT to buy the same product sitting on a shelf at room temperature. For pigeons, I think an avian-source probiotic would be best. Have you ever tried FlightPath? Let me know what you think of it etc. etc. So pay your money and take uyour choice.
  12. Has been well known.... self imunerisation. Remember a doctor telling a woman that kept running to him with the child every sneeze so to speak. 'For pete's sake let him roll in the muck and make some mud pies'.
  13. Well do as you feel you must, but in reality there just can't be a jot of any good for them. But people think there is, swear by it etc. so go ahead and but Yalkut, that or Beni.... Won't do them much harm, but will make you, and thoses using it feel better, so that isthe bonus.
  14. Can understand how a shape makes a difference in price :-/ :-/ Size, and time must be the same reasoning regards costs. Can't also see why - if one can afford to buy from the makers - how not just buying the materials and doing it yourself is above many.... all have mates that can.... Personally I think a strutual frame made up... off ground. Vovered with a wire mesh, then just add plastic cladding or air vents.... or clip on so one can replace one with the other as weather / climat dictates.
  15. Realistically a month. First week or so their dropping etc. with be amiss. Further regardless of all the mumbo jumbo, dropping vary with Feed/ Tempreture and time of day. Eyes that sparkle and alert, wink at you. Posture are far far better signs.
  16. Personal: libby@retford-poultry.freeserve.co.uk Don't know the current price, but an Autopsy is 50 quiddies.
  17. Frank I think you hit the nail on the head when say '..............and common sence should prevail ....' Unfortunately that seems to be a bridge to far for many, and against their ego and self importance for many others. Obviously don't know the wheres and whyfors in this case, but 'Common Sense does seem to be lack.
  18. Which ever Rd you fly, your competetors are also flying the same.... well mostly. yes we see and accept the East invariably has the edge, and the farther in the East the better of course. But in most clubs / even Fed the compition is fierce and you have to be upto the mark. Never mind crap scenarios regards being more keen, getting up ealier or whatever to steal a march, your competitors, the good ones are already with or ahead of you. We can't control or harness the wind.... Adjust our sail a little tops...

  20. Golly seems that he has brought out a load more dribble and plonkers spouting trip, Like Blumming Walter Mittee and Chrisss. Never never to say sorry, wasn't sulking streuth! I was agreeing with No 1 if you'd re read. As for the water Walter Mittee, depends on wind.... and as the wind is prodominately having West in it, then YES they do fly about 15 miles off the coast line... stronger winds take them over the continent. South Roaders have mostly wind assistants.. And a pigeon isn't stupid.... why they conn you you into Noon Liberations, because it holes them up and allows the Middle distance and Widowers unfair merits. Flies 350 miles and hops over the big river. Others with stiff wings etc. have to fly with stiff winds, and over the pimples of mountains etc. for another 150 - 350miles to home.... yet the Southampton and such birds can then claim to have won a distance race. Get real walter and Co.
  21. Lol, like a terrier to a rat eh! I have one or two more ideas, and a little up me sleeve. But you know, very, very shortly I will be asking for Names and their' guarantees. Time is coming, and it is shortly, when we ALL have to stand up and be counted. Many to help in very many different ways of course. Might even pick me scribe pen up a write agagin a couple of articles in the BHW/ Racing Pigeon.... I am often ask why I stopped, and moreso when am I goiing to do a few features again. Well P.O.B. Protect Our Pigeons may well get me started again.
  22. Would first off valueate your Location.... Frank Did. Clare Bewbold, Toseland Biss etc etc. the list is endless. Fact is no matter who you buy off, then most likely the best one can realistically aim for is Section Placing. But then again, the 'Names have expanded continuously over the years to put the also runs into the section to bolster their Coffers. Check the wind.... further east you are the better the Position... and let me state here and now, not neccesarily the flyer.
  23. Lost his mind! :-/ :-/ Nah, he's still hoping to get on lol ;D ;D

  25. Mutter never. re read and was answering the plonker that isn't really worth answering NORFOLK & SUFFOLK with Trevor (White Feather) Harris Well, what’s happening? Serious racing has not started up yet when we get the longer races across the channel - the 400, 500, 600 mile races. I would like to highlight across the channel not some little river, stream or duck pond water, as many fanciers racing north will only have to face. There are no houses, trees or other buildings for pigeons to land on to take a rest if they are tired so a 400 mile race on the north rd is a lot easier than a 400 mile race on the south and that is a fact. Club or National racing Well if someone wins a 55 mile race out of 100 pigeons and someone comes 1000th or even 8000th out of 8000 pigeons in a National race who is the best flyer? The Easter Bunny tells me it is the fancier who wins the 55 mile club race. Well the Easter Bunny is not in the real world nor are a lot of fanciers, so come on chaps do more National racing and compete against the best or do you still want to carry on winning all these short club races and think you are the best? What utter rubbish. I agree complete and utter rubbish. 8000TH in a 8000 race.... personally I wouldn't bothered to have timed that in lol. Yes No1 i do say sorry mucker.
