  1. Spent most of the day with mother at her 'trauma' department appointment - she broke her leg 7 weeks ago. it is slowly on the mend, x-rays and change of plastercast, plus seeing the consultant took several hours of the day - and all to be repeated in 3 weeks time Mother is 89 - it seems to be one trauma after another
  2. Personally - we will split a few weeks before the first race
  3. This is the first year the farmer had grown maples - and he said they were not easy to grow as they didn't grow very tall, he hadn't harvested this years tic beans yet - as the planned harvest was thwarted by the weather - but was hoping to harvest this coming week He also said he wanted to sell directly to the pigeon fancier (and would limit the tic beans and maples to 10 bags) as he didn't want anyone 'selling on' and increasing the price I put this on here for anyone who might be travelling to the nearby area - the farm is a 32 mile round trip for me but I was passing by anyway
  4. Went out to walk the dog and take in the sights at Staithes this afternoon and called into a farm on the way back (between Loftus and Staithes) where I have purchased beans before He was selling good quality home grown maples - last years tic beans and spring barley and wheat at really good prices Maples £8.50 for 25kg (twice dried and cleaned) 2013 harvest tic beans - £7.50 for 25kg (5 bags for £35.00) Barley and wheat (also 25kg bags) £6.50 or 4 bags for £21 All home grown - excellent quality Tel: 01287 640209 Dale's Farm, Whitby Road, Easington TS13 4NW
  5. Colombovac has not been available since January 2014 (the last ones to be manufactured had a January use by date on them)
  6. Its on page 487 of the Veterinary formulary book - 6th edition
  7. By whom? It is not openly sold in the UK I have never seen it - and a google on the internet shows it is only available from abroad - when you consider it has to be refrigerated then what sort of condition would it be in when entering the country ? I believe there are only TWO approved vaccines - Nobilis and Colombovac
  8. I am sure that the Chevita vaccine is not approved in the UK (and therefore should not be used...!)
  9. If you want to be right on the coast - Seaham would be a good racepoint (Seaham Harbour, Seaham Hall Car Park Durham SR7 7AG - from RPRA site) It would be a similar distance Or Whitley Bay for a shorter distance
  10. UNC - HOLDOVER
  11. UNC at Rivenhall (Southend) Poor visibility (but is improving...) next update 12.00 noon

  19. The Welsh stray you can report to WHU - They are usually pretty quick - although it is possible for a Welsh young bird to make its way up to Scotland - I would have thought it unlikely and more likely to have been bought in closer to home - several people in my fed have WHU rung youngsters WHU stray report: http://welshhomingpigeonunion.moonfruit.com/#/strays/4534350388
  20. Well done Ian (though I would have put them under the 'found' heading ) Hopefully will find their way home quickly How long are you working in Cumbernauld for?
  21. There's no better sight than a man wearing a pinny doing the ironing
  22. IMO A lot has to do with your vicinity I honestly have never had young bird sickness I fly behind the house (and the majority of YBS sufferers in my club are on the allotments - and it is the same ones EVERY year - I am one and a half miles from allotments) One of the allotment flyers who had YBS every year used cider vinegar in the water and never had YBS that year (he has moved 200 miles away now) However - is it just 'inbred' in the breeding stock? Do you vaccinate your stock birds for PMV every year? (I do) I personally use Osmonds Enviroboost in the water on return from a race I do not think it has anything to do with the feed I go regularly to the vets - I gave up on my microscope as I rarely found anything wrong - and in other people's droppings I always picked up seeing fungal infections (which branched out before your very eyes...very interesting) and could often see that the gut bacteria was not balanced (perhaps more rod shaped ones than others - but could not diagnose any problem from that as I was not experienced enough)
  23. The registered owner - is classed as the owner until such times as a transfer has been completed Have you reported the bird through the NEHU? The breeder should be aware of who the bird belongs to if it does not belong to him(surely) I smell a rat...!
  24. Welcome home Andy
  25. Well done all !
