I try to avoid reporting pigeons if at all possible and always try to have them tossed in the direction of their loft. At the moment I have 2 strays in pens in my garden shed. One will be tossed by me about half way home tomorrow and the other will be put on our transporter on Friday and released about 15 miles from its loft. No point in me reporting the bird when it is from 200 miles away and I can give it a good chance of getting home. It was ok when we had SPDS covering Scotland at £10 a time but to pay £35 - £40 to get a bird back which more than likely will go down at its next race seems a bit much to ask. As for reporting an OAP for being unable to afford to send for his pigeon...no comment
And you wonder why sometimes the sport gets a bad name. I tend to try to get strays tossed in the direction of their home loft where possible so hopefully they can get home under their own steam. It is difficult now with the cost of couriers as many fanciers cant afford to pay £35+ to get a yb back which could go down at the next toss. However it is wrong to ask someone else to dispose of a pigeon.
Well done to Aberdeen today getting a draw against Ross County. And looks like Club 12 will be back where they belong fairly quick. The question is will the league be over by the end of November
Never a good idea to kick someone when they are down cos they tend to kick you twice as hard on the way up again. Reemember what goes round comes around
Wasn`t aware that Lanarkshire "accomodated" the national. Thats very kind of you. In my opinion the Lanarkshire young bird programme must be the most unsuitable in the country over the past few years to prepare for the young bird national. Take a leaf out of the east feds book and get your young birds down their natural line (west) for a few years instead of dog legging from 100 miles. There are plenty birds lost on the east but what survives is worth keeping. Remember "if you do what you`ve always done you`ll get what you always got"
I felt sorry for Muhammed Ali. No need for the poor man to be there. And Paul McCartney, talented though he ONCE WAS should retire gracefully. The rest was a bit OTT but hey its the olympics so what do you expect
Yes. Will be keen to see the athletics, cycling and rowing. The rest doesnt inspire me though. Started to watch the football last night but went out after half an hour and watched the grass grow in the back garden.
