  1. I think this should be a sticky very good information. Mjb
  2. I always remember Eric saying he was not as good as people thought. He only ever shown once in a smash. I only ever had one good bird from Eric that was FB FOXY. the FB stands for F####ing Brilliant. His sire was bred by Chris Gordon and his dam by Eric who won up to 580 miles MNFC. NFC races. The hen which bred Eric the Viking was off a good bird named Dinkey who was a cripple. She was odd looking illness looking etc so I killed her. Then found out she had bred Eric the Viking. :cry-blow: I formed a family around FB Foxy, Boris and Shimwells red hen.
  3. That is Because Eric and David thought so too so bred many off them for the stock shed. Many of their stock flew out in the race lofts. I think they were great pigeons. But I handled many many birds at the lofts and they soon merge into one! If you know what I mean. The 46th open red cock also featured too but nothing any good off him came my way. Or I lost them quickly!!
  4. We Man I have been thinking what you have asked me. I change my methods every year but I used to be real hard with them around the loft. They were flagged for an hour evening and morning and ate as much as they liked. With peanuts galore the week of basketing. I think I was too hard with them but they were very good birds which came back. MJB
  5. Walter I used to know all these off by heart once but time is the killer. The Jan Aarden were all from two birds from the Ponderosa stud. The first was a Van de Wegen who bred many good birds for me and others who had him including the then F & J Alstead. The second was a Van Wanroy which Pondersa gave me because I told them about the other cock who was breeding. The Van Wanroy bred many good birds for me. The 1st sec Pau 660 miles winner etc. The Fed used to be the Derby Burton South Road Fed not sure how many birds were liberated but in 2001 it had reduced by loads and I can tell you just about 500 birds in the Fed. The NFC Pau race always has lots of birds going over 5,000 then. I think the Ponderosa were are a great stud. Hope this helps? MJB
  6. OK let me tell you what Eric Fox did with his birds. trained YBs by car only then raced them as yearlings many not seeing the channel at this point. Then two year old he would send then up to 500 miles only. What has been missed here is I flew the yearlings to 660 miles into Uttoxeter. They were raced hard but fair. I won the section at Pau in my first attempt in 1991 then continued to race thereafter at this distance with success. I only ever sent 4 or 5 birds to this type of race. The pigeon named Iorwen was a grand dtr of Colin Shimwells pigeon 580 miles on the day NFC Bordeaux which is where the reds come from. Now to Gordons pigeon 28 he wqas bred at Eric's loft and raced by Chris. You only need to know Chris and the races he won at with the distances too. Eric was my 'adoptive' grand father who I loved to go and see and ring every week for a chat. Now the birds which I bred from FB Foxy were all rung with rings I had which had my works collar number within them which was 4279 I take nothing away from Eric he was an awesome flyer. But he, well his son David came and purchased my key birds in 2001 when I sold up. He had my pedigrees which he then sold as his birds or failed to mention they were mine. here are some of thier pictures which I took back then:= nd club 500 miles 2nd Fed as a yearling then 1st sec Pau 660 miles as two years old. Jan Aarden crossed with Alfons Bauwens. Eggbert who was an egg I riased from the lofts of W Goddard of Bradford who sent two to Pau 725 miles timed thm both very high up. Sent two 580 miles timed them both on the night I think both scorred well. Now one pf my favourite birds FB Foxy bred by Eric Fox raced by me at 660 miles as a yearling then the following year again in a smash race. Anyone want to know any more please ask. MJB
  7. This is the FOX COCKS pedigree of John Ellis bird. MJB
  8. John Ellis has a bird who is called the FOX COCK. I have seen his pedigree and I bred the parents. Anyhow Chris Gordon has made his own family from the Eric Fox pigeons crossed with good distance birds but he did use Pearson and Stansfield Busschaerts sorry if miss spelt. He flies about 740 miles. I have a lot of Chris Gordon birds who look the part but only time will tell if they race well. I have crossed them a lot which I think is the best way because they are so much inbred. MJB
  9. thank you have it now MJB
  10. Is he a member on here? Or does anyone send me his Tel number? thank you MJB
  11. I have a very good red grizzle cock the hawks must chase him home because he is faster than my rest at 510 miles. :002: I think most fanciers are easily swade by rumour or fashion. I have a lot of reds, opals silvers pieds and grizzles of red and blue none have gone missing from the loft. atb, MJB
  12. the 2nd
  13. two different ways here is one
  14. yes you can but losses are an experience you need to consider. They can be very hard but so can club racing nowadays. I have sent Ybs to their only ever channel race NFC and MNFC 300 miles and had them but the next year never timed in. Had 6 one year 3 had races others first time in the race pannier. Had a hen who never had a race as Yb, then as yearling 3 inland races, two 400 miles then one 660 miles races where she scored in all of the races. The year 1997, The race centenary smash, then back again and then Pau NFC another smash. These are super pigeons though bred for the job. Many roads lead to Rome, atb, MJB
  15. Well done a very good pigeon in a testing race.
  16. well done the birds and fanciers who have birds home. MJB
  17. I think they have it right the cats are an introduction who eat the all the animals. In the Galapogos Isles they have been shooting Goats for a number of years to help the tortoise. In Australia they have dogs rats and mice. MJB I am trying to shoot some grey squirrels today they are eating all my wild bird food. MJB
  18. I have thought of doing the survey but my garden is full of little birds which even includes a Great Crest. Or Gold Crest. But hey that would be helping them wouldn't it.
  19. Never had any issues with Elimar or Les but buyers are sometimes a pain. MJB
  20. I could not agree more than what you have said. If there was one of my lost racers in their then great that saves me £40.00 in courier fees. The streeters are a nusiance and they all should be culled. Oh except the pretty ones!! We all like to see them dont we
  21. NICE VIDEOS hard to beat them guys. MJB
  22. very good hen to want to get home all alone and so many miles to cover.
  23. Does anyone know the dates of the next show at Doncaster ATB MJB
  24. I know the DAX winner at the BIIC rcae which was won by Mr Mrs Kennett was not on the day but there were many day birds much shorter. The race you speak of may be similar even though as you say a smaller radius, the winner may have been the shorter flyer and timed at 10pm, and the winner may have been the longest flyer timed at 05.01am
