I think it all depends on what type of birds you have ie sprint middle distance or extreme. I liked to send most of my ybs to a national race which was just under 300 miles. You loose a lot which I always expected to loose as yearlings but without need to feed and clean after them over the winter months. But as I do not always do the same stuff each year I have not raced them but trained them to 65 miles and had soem outstanding yearlings but lost a lot in their first toss as yearlings. atb

Cawdy, I had some birds back from David Fox of Bakewell a few years back. I was notg impressed witht he in breeding he had done, I had already inbreed a lot with the family. I raced the birds and hey they surprised me by flying really well up to 660 miles!!! I do not worry about it now adays and think of hybrid vigour by outcrossing at every pairing if possible but I dont mind too if related. atb

I had birds who flew very well on a babies milk spoon in the morning and again in the evening. I did add more say Thursday but they ate very little extra. I never had them out on Friday and removed their food early say 11am with a 1pm liberation. I never flagged them at that time because they flew and flew some about 1 and a half hours twice daily!!! You can flag them but you can take too much out of them by doing that too much. Hope this helps.

I used this system. I did put the lights on a timer so they cam on at say mid day in case I was late getting home.

I watched tonight with a tear in my eye my birds gradually disappear from the sale list. As they vanished I knew they were now gone. I wish all the buyers best of luck with these birds, well done. Anyone who missed out, sorry. The amount raised was £2,645 before expences are taken off. Look forward now to seeing htem gone and then the equipment next week.

I have been down to the birds and fed them for some of their last few feeds before they are all sold. I often get asked by members of the public about my pets! I have tried to explain to them that they are not pets in my case but a tool or something. It has dawned on me what my pigeons are, the whole set up is not about individuals but it is a living breathing colony. You are only as good as that colony, I expect we always get an odd one that sticks out. How do you view your birds?

They were £380 3 years ago but went up to £480 just after that, that is how much mine cost. I have no idea how much one would cost now but when I got mine I was in the right place at the right time. I was told only a couple come across into this country each year. They come to Telford and Blackpool in the new transporter which carries it in. Then you have to pay for it and pick it up at the end of the show which was painful.

It will have to go yes.

Has any members on here got one of these? I have and although it was on th eexpensive side I firmly believe that it was worth every penny I paid for it. The box sit on top of the car and x4 removable crates are used to take the birds. No mess in the car but most of all no dust inside the car. Liberating was easier too, no lifting out heavy baskets and they could be released just over the hedge with ease. Anyone going to Blackpool check out the Geraldy stand they usuually have one for sale. If you can afford it and want a clean car I highly suggest that you get one. Happy new year to everyone.

I have asked to be put on the sellers list but it had not been sorted so they are all on Elimar site, sorry. I would have put them on here as there are so many good fanciers on the site etc. All the best. mjb

I have been in and out of the loft today and too be quicker I never wore the big mask. Now I am paying for it. I feel bunged up and have a serious flem problem at the back of my throat. I do not want to go throughthe rest of my life feeling like that. Even with the mask it still effects me and that is the all singing and dancing aircap. Sorry if I have been a bit graphic but I am tired and if you do not suffer it you willnever be able to understand it. Thanx for your good wishes and support. Hopefully I will do them proud and they me and 37 will be there at the end of the season.

Well I have been busy writing down all their stuff for the pedigrees ect and handled the birds to take their pics. Got they were perfect specimens. I hummed and rrrred and changed my mind for the time being. What I intend to do is breed nothing, race the old birds as I had planned, Barcelona, Tarbes etc and "go for gold" I think it is called. At least after this coming season there will not be much left to worry about and those that remain will hopefully found a loft for someone.

I have joined the pending sellers group so depends on if I am accepted or not. I will gladly get some stuff on here.

I have decided to part with the birds again and will be putting someting on the other site, pigeon chat. Only the best long distance birds kept by me.

Yes Sam she is a Jan Theelen and cost quite a bit of money. A 2005 bird so I am looking forward to breeding her this coming year.
