  1. Less than 24 hours to go now. Good luck everyone lets hope they get a steady but good race. Best of luck the Welsh, Irish Scottish and British birds, come on. MJB
  2. I see no reason why not to train if you have the time and the days are sunny and not too cold, and the distance is not above 10 miles. However I am off to Tenerife this week end so nothing likely to happen here until after 4th April. MJB
  3. Tel numbers are gained and sold on. Have you ever filled in a quiz form at a restaurant or plane questionnaire? I have and put false names down such as Dr or Father and low and behold I started getting silly cold calls for these fictitious people. Also once you hand over your tel number to a loan company or bank or even an estate agent they sell on your details. Insurance accidents are another bug bare of mine. They sell your accident details too!! I answer usually by mistake and place the hand phone near the TV. Or use caller ID and let it just ring out if I do not know the number. If it is important they will ring back. It is a pity I don't speak a foreign language because I would talk back to them in it. MJB
  4. I was fed up of running up the garden to answer the phone nearly everyday for some prat on the other end trying to either sell me something or claim something I was either interested in or entitled too. I was getting quicker mind you. I had heard of a system set up to stop them calling and I have done it with success. The phone rings rarely now I think I have no mates at all now. Hear is what I did:- Registering with a preference service A great way to reduce the amount of unsolicited marketing materials you receive is to register with a preference service. Your details will be put on a list and certain companies will not be allowed to send you unsolicited marketing materials. You can do this for emails and telephone calls. It is free to register. Be aware – it takes up to 28 days for your request to be implemented. If, after registering, you receive unsolicited marketing from within the UK, you should complain to the preference service. You should give the name, telephone number and address, if possible, of the company and the date of the call or email. It is illegal for companies to make unsolicited marketing calls to anyone who is registered with the TPS. Telephone Preference Service (TPS) The TPS applies to phone calls only. It doesn't cover texts. Telephone Preference Service TPS Registration Line: 0845 070 0707 Tel: 0845 703 4599 Fax: 020 7323 4226 Takes less than 5 minutes and saves all that running. If they still ring I say hang on a minute I will get them for you place the phone near the TV and just leave it. Hope this helps MJB

  13. I had a red cock who bred loads of pigeons which are all around the country. I am sure they are thriving but having lost them all I do not know. I got rid of the cock and have no birds related to him here. I have heard similar stories as well as an occasional good one. MJB

  18. Wellbank Endurance - 1000miler In 1971 John entered his now famous Red pied cock "Endurance" at the Usher Vaux Beauvais race, then later in the year the fed Avranches race. In 1972 John plucked up the courage to send this cock to Palamos 1044.mls with the "British Barcelona Club". He finished 2nd sect.E and I think 82nd Open. In 1973 John flew the flag again for Scotland from Palamos, or (should I say Endurance did!) This time he won the sect and was 27th Open, and the remarkable thing here was, that he was flying approx 400mls, YES 400 further than the pigeons that beat him. John must have been elated! He won the BBC trophy, a gold medal, and the Gordan Hair cup, furthest flying bird in race time! Endurance in fact came direct from the 1965 Rennes E sect winner. Wellbank Endurance was later bought by the late Jim Biss; who had him at stock for 4 years. John bought the pigeon back through F.W.S.Hall of Enfeild, at one of his famous auctions, for in fact less than he was sold for! On return John took him from a box, looked at him, let him go and he went half circle to the board, straight through the trap, and up to his old nest box! John was very pleased for this special pigeon, home at LAST! Endurance came direct off the 1965 sect winner "Wellbank Pride", who was from the Matt Telfor gift egg containing Bob Strachan x Dave Shearer of Strathaven, in Lanarkshire bloodlines. Still with the B.B.C, John sent a young bird to Rennes with them in 1972 & 1973 respectively and got both his young red & young mealy cocks home from 583mls. Not bad going for young birds. This must be some sort of record.
  19. I like this OLR think the concept is very good. I lost about half my Ybs in the first three races last year 2014. That was at a rough count 50 YBS. No idea why just never turned in. MJB
