Have dropped 10 so far 4 from last weeks Otterburn race mostly late bred or birds that maybe should,nt be here anyway but have dropped what I thought was a very nice 2 yr old hen , I,m sure I will lose a hell of a lot more before the season is done but that's the modern day racing unfortunately .
-
I had the opposite , lost 8 ybs from the only race I sent 7 got reported ! There was one I really wanted back and offered to send for it but fancier said he knew someone close to Airdrie and would have it released , never saw it again then a phone call 2 weeks ago reporting the same pigeon in the same town but guy said he had taken over the guys loft and this bird was in there , same phone number ? I would have let him keep it if that's what he wanted then told me he has some cracking ybs of it this year .lol
-
Think that is way I will fly next year far less hassle.
-
Tell me about it . To get to work the missus takes me to train station get train then get a bus then same in reverse every day not a lot of time left for racing at the top level that is required in Airdrie club lol. But will keep going .

Up at 5 too dark to let birds out before work , get home at around 6 lock naturals up (been on open hole) just taken hens away from cocks yesterday, cocks out one hour , hens out 45 mins , have only 3 ybs so no problem there . Will let cocks out twice a day when it gets light at 5 , my biggest problem is I work but don't drive so getting training in is a night mare ,thank god for the missus who hates the birds lol.

That's about his bed time nowadays lol now upto 7 , more than I was expecting with only 3 tosses fi Peebles ish .

Took my racing cocks with some late breds today just 5 Miles , let them up then went to a couple of garden centres with the missus and got home 1 1/2 hours later no birds then they started to arrive in 1/2 s within 10 mins all 30 home what and where were they upto . Have lost 5 in 4 tosses so far .
-
Not sending to first race so have a bit more time to get the untried ones a few tosses the rest will get 2 tosses then into third race . Good luck for those racing tomorrow.

All very interesting , this is why at 57 I still consider myself a novice as there is more to pigeons than putting birds in basket and expecting to win races .
-
Not worried either Andy until Doug came through to collect some I never ever looked as the basket will tell me if they are fretting , very true out of the five that were single reared none had any faults so there can't be much in this .
-
I would like a few opinions on fret marks on ybs wings , I gave all my first round away today but on inspection found very minor marks on a half dozen ybs from different nests and one which was a cracking yb had 1 flight that had stopped growing , This concerned me so I spoke to a very good fancier with nat wins and international wins to his credit and he told me which flights they were on and he was correct ! And said ( as my brother did) that as long as there are no frets on the quil then they matter not , on the yb with the half grown flight there was absolutely no other frets on wings or tail other than what looked like bruising at the base of the flight like a knock . Just would like some general opinion without the kill brigade .

My garden must buck the trend as it is stowed with loads of small birds from finches to woodpecker but also the Sparra hen now and again ! Am missing a really nice blue cock tonight from exercise so Percy must also visit ,
-
Welcome to pigeonbasics Racing while rearing is no problem as long as you put the correct food into them , my cock that was 3 rd in sect at Maidstone 350 mls sitting 2 eggs and feeding a very big young bird in fact his eggs were starting to hatch so as long as you give them the correct fuel they will be fine .
-
I have a 24 day old feeding all the rest of the ybs that are around 20 days ! Not sure she is actually feeding them but going through all the motions , I have seen it before but just the odd one . Is it a normal thing with ybs .
-
The cocks have never had their hens since sept last year , I had 52 hens and only 31 cocks so that was reason for trying celibate to save me time . I accept that I was to blame but have just got fed up trying to get cocks in so gave them some hens to settle them a bit , the end result is the same that they go on roundabout earlier than planned . .
-
Believe me that was the way I seen it but they were fed very lightly yesterday morning and nothing at night , let them out this morning and no interest flew for well over hour then just fooked about , Have given them their hens now so will see if they react . I know it's my fault bad management but not had it as bad before .

Going to fly celibate this year ( not a lot of time due to work ) but struggling to get the cocks trapping from exercise they exercise well considering they have only been out 3/4 times since winter. Don t want to show hens until 4/5 race . Any ideas
