Who me Tam ?? Am the best fancier in Ma hoose :emoticon-014 I agree way every word Jimbo posted and most of what Stuart posted. Selfish inconsiderate men who criticise everybody but themselves when it's no gawn their way but widnae lift a finger tae help somebody oot, ave Nae time for. On the flip side ye have Super Fanciers who win year in year out and every time ye see them they are workin at ye marking stations. There fae the club opens tae the motor is away. 2 men in particular have stood the test of time tae qualify for that category and its Davy Elliot and Ian Lindsay. If ever I can lace any of they 2 men's shoes al consider Ma sel a good fancier. In the meantime al just need tae be mediocre, like a lot of other fanciers.

Having posted on the losses thread about Good or Bad fanciers I wonder how members judge someone to be a Good or Bad fancier. Ain't no right or wrong answers to this, it's just about opinions.

Rescued Injured Racer But What Now?
JohnQuinn replied to gilder's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
You can release the bird anytime now as it has some strength back. Likely hood is it will go home of its own accord but you may find it returns to or stays at your place but if no other pigeons are about the probable outcome will be it making its way home again. They are remarkably resilient wee birds when it comes to recovery from injuries so you don't need to have any more concerns about those. In your position I would release it on a nice bright morning to give it the chance to go home by itself. There are lots of claims that fanciers dispose of birds without thought but that is simply untrue. Atvb with it. -
Always thought self assessment gives a false reading Tam so al leave others tae decide Ma categories.
-
The reason 1.3.5&7 are more numerous reasons than 2.4&6 is because IMO, that's Steadfast opinion, Fanciers are the biggest cause of losses Not outside factors. An nobody but Fanciers themselves are to blame for birds not getting reported.
-
expletive remove Derek it's no about a bad race, it's aboot the same fanciers year in year oot greetin they've lost aw their Doos AGAIN and the reasons why they're no gettin reported by other fanciers and I covered both subjects. For the record I have repatriated 5 Ybs this season, even drove half way tae meet someone who's bird came intae Ma place. I know fanciers that widnae have reported ANY of the 5 for the reasons I stated earlier. I rest Ma case😡
-
Naw it's because am managing mine different fae most but al loss the same percentage as every other Average fancier in the Fed over the next 5 weeks.
-
Derek am no talking about the 5% of fanciers, it's the 95% I refer tae. This is no a 2016 problem it's been like this for feckin years
-
Like a said tae Delboy, have a look and listen when the good fanciers are getting good returns and others are greetin about losing umpteen. Maybe then no think it's as much Sheeite as yer thinkin Derek.

When I was stray officer I used to use my own baskets to ferry the strays. This was deliberate as I wanted my Ybs exposed to as many bacteria/viruses as possible. Madness ?? Maybe but I think it even more madness when a stray lands on a loft and the fancier won't even let the poor cant in his loft in case it's got a disease. There IMO lies the problem with Non reporting of strays, they canny report what they won't let in and I think this applies to a large percentage of fanciers. If it's no for disease reasons then it's because they canny be bothered way the hassle. Disnae help when owners are 'suggesting' the finder dispose of it which is as prevalent as ppl no given house room tae them. My conclusion to this is its Self inflicted on the back of scare stories about YBS PMV PARATYPHOID ( though that should be PARANOIA) or any other fad illness fanciers are claiming they know of. Ps. I haven't had to put down a single Yb this season and I believe it's because my Doos are more resistant to disease because of the exposure to it. Again jmo

I never said Good or even Great fanciers wullnae have terrible losses Derek, but look about when these guys are getting good returns and there are loadsa fanciers complaining of heavy losses. That's when Bad Fanciers stick oot like a sare thumb. Jmo
-
Main reason for losses are as follows. 1. Bad Fanciers 2. Bad Pigeons bred off of Bad Pigeons. 3. Bad Fanciers 4. Unfit Pigeons 5. Bad Fanciers 6. Hawks. 7. Bad Fanciers. Jmo

If you set birds up with an individual race in mind and the race isn't a complete disaster you ought to be timing from the chosen race, Gold Cup or otherwise. If you start out intending to win the Averages there are many more hurdles to jump and the demand to keep the birds on top form for 3 months is IMO far more difficult to achieve. BUT ye can win the Averages without winning a race and a Ticket fae the Gold Cup is more attractive than a dozen also ran tickets at club level.
-
Big well done to Both of you guys, nice tae win and nicer tae breed a winner ðŸ‘ðŸ‘

Good shootin Davie ðŸ‘ðŸ‘

I accept everybody's opinion, no necessarily agree with them but each to their own. Some ppl want Yb racing stopped at 100mls which tae me isnae right but that's their opinion. Some other ppl train the life and races out of their birds old or young and a don't agree way that either. Yer right every day is a school day and I will no doubt learn a lesson fae this approach but my best bred Ybs will still be going racing this year, a LOT of fanciers have already fed their's tae Percy for nowt.....Well no for nowt, they're feeding Percy so it's fit and strong tae kill mine when they go racing.
