Whos Loft Would You Most Like To Visit
JohnQuinn replied to THE FIFER's topic in Breeding, Strains & Families
A widnae particularly like to visit any loft, However i would LOVE the chance to follow George Macaloney about for 4 weeks before racing started. His methods are more important than the doos imo. -

Im not sure if I want to take up raceing but I like the idea of training them. I figure try that first and see how I get on. Best of luck to you, the members on here will give you every assistance in getting started when you're ready to get going. Atvb John. -

Welcome to the site Flash , are you planning on taking up the Racing game or are you more into the Tumblers etc. ? -

Yes very pleased with the outcome Archie, he was coupled for about 20 mins so we were hopeful that the litter would be a decent number, shame about the still born, it was the only Tan pup (colour of Max's Dam) in the litter. Have 4 predominantly black the Blue dog and a white/black patch dog, so a wee mixture to choose from. I took the Darkest coated female who i'm hopnig will take Max's coat. She has the short muzzle like him so fingers crossed.

The litter were born on Monday past, she had 7 but 1 was still born. I have chosen the female one i want but there is a Blue dog pup there that will be a beauty. When they start wandering i will put some pic's up of them.

Loft And Bird Plans For The Winter Months Ahead .
JohnQuinn replied to THE FIFER's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
You've got a spy in the camp who was telling me all about the new loft arriving on a big lorry. Best of luck with it Eddie, i hope the birds settle quickly for you. Cheers John. -
For the record Donald, i believe you to be one of the finest pigeon fanciers who Race and Show their Racing pigeons in the Uk, there is no question of that and i have stated this to many fanciers over the years. However i have to disagree that i am making any Accusations, everything i have written on here i have personally witnessed many times and will no doubt see it a lot more. There is imo very little that can be done about it so I put my trust in the Judges that they can identify these birds and leave them out of the tickets. If they don't, i go home quite content that i've had a nice day out and seen some fanciers i don't see from one show season to another, yourselves and Andrew included. Most Sincerely i wish you a very successful winter and still look forward to seeing you again. Atvb John.

Lanarkshire Social Circle Presentation 2012

The one night of the year i most look forward to. Roughy at the top table should get us going too, seen him about 2 yrs ago and he was bang on. -
Don't hold yer breath, i've been showing RACING pigeons at all the shows available to me for 20+ years and i know a doo that has been crossed and never raced when i see it, and in almost EVERY racing class under 300mls i see these doos in the flown classes and know fine well they aren't PURE racers and have never seen a basket. I don't mind showing against these doos as i don't take it seriously enough but a lot of fanciers have been put off going to shows because of this (FACT) and that is a sad state of affairs for a £10 prize and a twopenny card but some people will go to any lengths for a pat on the back and a red card.

That's no the gist of it Brian, there isnae anybody saying there is cheating going on at any shows. The gist of it is to encourage Racing men to show their doos against other Racing men and not "professional" show men. This is MY opinion on the show scene and ZERO to do with the above.......There are men who turn up at shows and enter birds in FLOWN classes that clearly have never raced, they only need to be friendly with the club sec and he'll sign his verification letter without giving it another thought, that's the Fancier AND Secretary i mean will think nothing of it again. Everybody knows it goes on and i mean Everybody involved in showing.

Might As Well Ask What'S Everyone Up To Tonight

Last night of a weeks holiday, so if i'm no gonna wake up some morning i hope its the morra -
The explanation for the show being open to those who have raced under SHU rules was that as the show scene in Scotland needed something to get the ordinary racing man involved in and enter his doos knowing he can win bacause he'll no be ripped off by some fanciers turning up with flown certificates for doos that haven't seen the inside of a basket. Whether it'll turn out that way or not is quite another thing though

Hi Owen, just out of curiosity, do you race your hens and if so do you get bother with them pairing to each other?

PM me your address and i'll look out some for you. Should be L prefix but have some plain rings too, maybe have a NL ring about somewhere if that's any use and if i can find it i will send it too.

Loft And Bird Plans For The Winter Months Ahead .
JohnQuinn replied to THE FIFER's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
Started cleaning my big loft out the other day and fitted some lift off perches where i had my stock doos, after a couple of days away this week i will get back into it on my return. Truth be told there is enough work to be done between the 3 lofts and the garden that it'll take to Christmas to get it all done. -
They look the same size as Muttley's hen boxes Andy.
-
I used it about a fortnight ago Alan and to be honest i canny see any difference in my doos. Had it in for 2 days though whether that was not long enough or otherwise i don't know but i canny see any change in the condition of ma doos at all. Don't get me wrong it hasn't done them any harm either. Think i'll keep it for spraying the loft in future.

Who'S The Best Distance Loft In Scotland

An any age class might work Archie, depending on whether the SHU would allow the winner into the "final" so to speak. If it was a PB members only class i doubt they would allow the winner up to the top table to be judged for best in show, JMO!!. An any age class for PB members would attract a good entry from fanciers who have perhaps got too many for a particular class so could enter them into the PB class to have an interest in that class as well regardless of the doos age, and maybe sex too.???

If you One Spot them with 1% Ivomectin they will all be gone in 14 days.

Its a Bovine antibiotic used for the treatment of pneumonia, in pigeons it would cure respiratory problems.
