Thanks for the kind words Tommy ,that's a pair of youngsters you can have anytime just for the asking ,agree a lot with what you say regarding loft location i would love to See the solway federation being measured from a breaking point for all federation races say Longtown as i feel that would give everyone a fair crack of the whip especially the west section fanciers ,i would be one of the first to agree that flying into moffat is no walk in the park but at the same time think although i am the furthest flying member in the fed that i still am at a greater advantage than the dumfries and dalbeattie fanciers who unless it is a strong easterly wind have no chance ,I joined the anglo scottish when it first was founded as it was a midweek club and suited me fine for latebred or birds that needed experience having to fly the last thirty or perhaps forty miles on there on ,I am still a member to this day but have not participated for at least five years or more as i feel my birds stand a better chance with the fed on a saturday ,would love to witness the day when we could all fly under one flag with a full transporter forever the optimist i suppose .Anyway Moffat is where my livelihood is and thats where my birds are going to have to home to they do not get a choice on that one but i am confident with the family i am building that they will come good in the near future .As i said at the beginning Tommy pair o youngster anytime you wish ,Yours in Sport Mick

Have taught any dog we have had just the same they learn very quickly unless they are stupid My daughters dog that we have at present spends nearly 24/7 with us ,take it into the loft at feeding time both the birds and dog have now got used to each other and they sense that it hates cats even more than they do got her at local canine rescue centre as a pup she is now 20 months mother was a staffordshire father a rhodesian ridge back she is not that big but built like a s----house ,she is my best-est friend

Thanks for that if some good comes out of it will be worth the wait ,think a must be turning a bit soft just hate throwing them away nowadays .

My thinking behind this one is we take great care when pairing our doos and hope there is no fighting etc then we hope both eggs hatch and that the youngsters are fit and healthy ,we then watch over them when they first leave the loft then take great care in the training of them to give them the best chance in life so i feel having fed these birds all winter and seeing them mature into the specimens they now are and knowing the parentage just think it would be a waste of all my time and effort to give them a few tosses in unfavourable weather then have to rush them into the first race which may not be suitable weather wise then because of my location we would be at 100 plus miles ,so my plans are to let them get fully fit round the loft then when the weather is far more suitable for training give them as good an education as possible and school them along with the yb's if room becomes available send them with the youngsters to the first races or take them in my van and liberate them with the convoy ,can only try and see the results no it takes longer but prepared to give it a go ,convinced myself on this one but its everyone to there on jmo

Mate of mine feeds nothing but gerry plus during the racing season and he won two nationals in two weeks one being the gold cup ,if the pigeons are good enough one of the things that is sure to ruin there chances is constant change of diet ,he only gives them a wee something extra at 500mls

Well with the winter nearly over and spring in the air not long now to the racing season kicks of,having had all winter to think about the 2011 season what would members be satisfied with at the end of both old and young bird racing what are your goals I on my part for the forthcoming old bird season hope to have learnt from a few mistakes i made last year trying roundabout for the first time have got some handy well-bred two and three year olds that i am looking to do well in the nationals with if i can get them to the starting post . As for the young birds having raced on the darkness for the past few years will revert back to natural this year and only take one round from my stock birds if i can get these out to 100 plus miles will be well pleased to winter them ,I am doing this because i have a team of unraced well bred yearlings that i have decided to train really well also along with the youngsters and maybe get a few races out of them as triners during the young bird racing if basket space permits then would be in a strong position for the 2012 season ,That would be a successful season for myself look forward to reading your replies Good luck for 2011

Raced the doos now for 39 years kept them even longer and get as excited on a Saturday as i did all those years ago ,used to love being sixty miles from home waiting on the sun rising then trying to race them back home knowing they would all come together without encountering any problems late mother would have my breakfast ready then it was of to work at seven thirty spent ma thirty six pounds a week on them then (nothing changes ) went through a spell following Scotland to European championships world cups (yes we did qualify then )did-nae want tae come home from Sweden ,grew out of that now or should i say my liver has ,enjoy all aspects of the sport even the scrapping out was eight tonight before i got them all spic and span that's devotion ,love the national races hate loosing a favourite love the yb's as they are so unpredictable ,hate the politics big fan of the social side ,wife's always threatened to come back as a doo but a told her she could be away in the wheelie first week ,Greatest sport on earth feel privileged to be part of it

Mate of mine owns a blue cock bird that was a darkness youngster flew well on the darkness done absolutely nothing as a yearling then from two onwards turned into a racing machine with eight individual firsts and a second open national to its credit .

Witnessed the hen peregrine strike and take a bird out of the batch at such speed the others just keep on racing over in a second only cause real mayhem with the batch when first strike is unsuccessful ,cock bird struggles to carry anything of any size any great distance but piece of cake to the female and i have seen some big females
