First class here this morning after an early frost ,the hills look so close you would think you could touch them
-
I would say if they are hatched in may they would be classed as late ,i have only started to ring youngsters as our first race is mid July but we have four races under 100mls so this gives them an extra four weeks if required ,never be scared to jump them 100mls if they are in top health as it is no probs to them ,I entered three 3yo hens in our first race last week this was ther first ever race ,they were never in a basket until they were 2yo and then they only had six training tosses out to 30 mls this season they had two trainers at 7mls and one at 18mls ,the first i clocked 5 seconds after my first bird taking 6th club with the other two very close behind so i suppose that blows the theory that they must be trained or raced when young .omo

I only tried the darkness myself for the first time a few years ago ,and i have to say with fantastic results,I had to get a system that suited me and not the birds they were darkened at eight o'clock and because i was away to work early relied on a friend a non fancier to open up the shutters and feed and water them ,the only time this was convenient to my friend was 12 noon so that was the system we used but i must point out it was to the second and never missed ,we fed them very lightly at noon but after evening exercise as much as they could eat for no more than ten minutes once training was complete and they had entered the transporter they were then treated as widowhood pigeons i took two weeks holiday and trained them as such taking them to 20 mls on three consecutive days (weather permitting) and released the hens first in two's every 2 minutes then the cocks in two's as the hens ,they then got to run with each other in the boxes until i got home and separated them ,once they had figured it out they always came in order of release unless they were struck never circling when released from my hand this is when you have got them 100% health wise when they are like this you couldn't shut them out ,the hard bit is getting them 100% big tip get them all one age and don't introduce a stranger to the team ,Good Luck

Had intended to go for a few tomorrow with some mates and watch the game ,but seeing the birds were heldover today ,they now take pole position and the fitba comes in a very poor second

Intend to send them all every week for first few races to get them fit ,looks like SW wind changing to NW ,fresh NW here at present that was not forecast .racing roundabout for only second year must be starting to get it right as i got 8 very quick last week birds in excellent condition with not having reared any young ,good luck to all
-
Stainmore ,forecast se wind 21 degrees so should be a fast one 73 miles (kiss of death )
-
I don't no which route you race personally if we have an easterly wind from our race points it tends to be a very fast race with birds being very high lost a lot of good yearling cocks at such races think they have overflown Scotland before they get there brakes on ,tend to send them all regardless now as there luck will run out sometime due to the horrendous falcon problems just lost a two year old hen at first race ,she has never been out of my first five home since her first race also flew national eastbourne last year 352 mls ,as i say nowadays they are only a passing acquaintance ,so i think if they are bred to race don't get attached to them and let them take there chance omo
