I have at present one stock loft which has a large double glazed window fitted on the front the loft being 12x6 the window is 11x4 ,but the loft faces north with no sunlight entering through the window what soever it is only there for daylight purpose and because it was free,I would never fit glass where the sun could shine directly onto it as in warm spells the heat would be to great inside the loft burning of all the fresh oxygen so be very careful on this one ,my racing loft which faces south has a 2 foot polycarbonate sheet fitted at ridge level on the front full length of loft but only for daylight purpose all the loft front is louvred and mesh to let as much fresh air enter at all times summer and winter but designed so that no rain what soever can enter no matter what the weather guaranteeing as near as possible perfect health with no need to treat at any time for respiratory problems which i believe are caused 100% by lack of proper airflow,as i say glass is OK when fitted not to alter air quality so be very careful ,good luck

We are racing from Huntington but i am not sending any in what is looking like a very strong west wind, only working with a small team of cocks that are flying really well at present so no intentions in sending them to the east of London in those conditions keep them fresh and motivated for the national where i will be very disappointed if they do not take the first three open positions

The Falcons feathers are very coarse and able to withstand a fair amount of water ,having watched the clip the falcon was only keeping a grip of its prey until it was able to get it onto dry land we can count ourselves very very lucky that it does not adopt the same method of attack on a loft roof ,once watched a film where after the falcon had made a kill it went to the rivers edge for a bath then lay in the sun to dry .

That is one thing we have to be grateful for here in the Solway fed ,due to the wonderful efforts and hard work of our President Mr Walter Swanston and secretary Mr Maurice Lytollis we have an up to date news letter regarding all fed issues and also a first class Web site with all up to date information and results including each race report with controllers and convoyers every move in black and white who phoned who and when to the minute a very big well done to them ,We liberated at 6-30 on saturday to give the birds a fighting chance the leaders made very good time although there were some big losses with some very good birds amiss due to the strong winds and with us racing the a1 route with so many other feds clashing must be taking place with so many looking for that window in what was a very limited timescale on Saturday due to the advancing weather front ,We have a wonderful controller in Raymond White and come the AGM'S have never seen a queue of people willing to take on the job ,Its a thankless task lads,I am out of bed at daybreak on a Saturday whether racing or not to give a weather report for the well being of the midland and ballochmyle doos and am always happy to here of there safe return .

Good to see common sense on your part why o why federations keep going to lib sites where there are falcon sites beggars belief, how can we defend our sport organise marches ,sign petitions when we cant even put our own house in order ,the ones who come up with all the other excuses obviously have never witnessed a family of falcons attack a group of racing pigeons and for this to happen upon liberation gives the birds no chance whatsoever in getting onto there racing line ,we as a federation liberated our yb's at a site called sedburgh in the cumbrian fells seems a good spot on top of a hill in open countryside yet there are falcon sites in the immediate vicinity 2 years back our controller put it in his report that the convoyer stated the birds were attacked by a family of falcons on liberation gaining height until they were dots in the sky and splitting into two groups one group never made it home ,returned to same site last year and lost half convoy again ,Lambs to the slaughter,The bird of prey enthusiast's must be laughing there heads of at us lot .

Having kept the doos for near on forty years i thought i had seen it all but seems never to old to learn ,Having been on holiday this week with the wife not keeping to well i have not ventured far and have been working the doos and carrying out odd jobs in what has been a very unsettled week weather wise .Whilst the birds were out early morning or evening the odd stray joins them as is usual at this time of year ,i do my best to treat everyone as if it were my own placing them in a lage hamper and supplying fresh food and water ,these birds are then either taken to the lanarkshire or glasgow areas and liberated in good weather giving them a fighting chance of making home have been doing this for many years and what must be hundreds .Sent four to glasgow on monday and another 5 have since came in they were in such good health today and eager to get there freedom so i took them a short distance from home and liberated them into a south wind and blue sky 3 with gb rings one fife and one lanarkshire they gained height and cleared to the nw of moffat i returned home and had a bite to eat before i headed of to the race marking ,the only thing i left open at the loft was the passageway door on the gable end of the loft when i came out to the loft to catch the birds for the race lo and behold there sitting on top of the basket in the loft were the famous 5 yes not one but all 5 still cant believe that five healthy doos from various parts of the country decide to return having never been outside the loft before ,just let me pick them up and put them in the hamper still gobsmacked FUNNY OLD GAME
