THE FIFER Posted January 5, 2017 Report Posted January 5, 2017 Just reading my daily newspaper ie. "Extensions of poultry bio security measures, the Scottish Government announced yesterday that the prevention zone, which requires all poultry keepers to keep their birds indoors will be in force until the end of next Month, and there is also a GB -wide ban on poultry shows and gatherings, The advice comes as another case of the highly pathogenic virus was confirmed in a backyard flock of chicken and ducks in Wales " will this harm the Blackpool Show ??

Roland Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 I believe it will, hope, that the show will go on. Having said that, I do hope that we ALL adhere to Dafra and keep our birds in. Dafra DO class our pigeons still as poultry, and have refused to change this after many years of our governing bodies to alter this. .... Mind having said that, it would appear now 'Loosely' as such. It's Joe Public' in their ignorance that can't, accept that our Pigeons don't get the Avian Flu ... to them they are just birds - or via some stupid ones vermin ( In the town centres. So WE and Dafra need to play ball and not upset Joe. Now CATS, for example, DO and are affected via the Avian flu, but I have never seen any attempt, let alone order, for them to be kept in lol A little way to go for racing yet I feel and don't see any reason to cause any unnecessary upsets. So let's suck the dummy and keep the rattle in the pram eh!
Williedoo Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Yes Roland, and if pigeons were not classed as poultry there wouldbe VAT on pigeon food.
Ian McKay Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Yes Roland, and if pigeons were not classed as poultry there wouldbe VAT on pigeon food. Good point Willie

Pigeons are allowed out Advice from DEFRA on Shows and Sales“As you are aware, the gathering of birds for a sale or show is permitted under the specific terms and conditions of a Defra General Licence. In the light of the current risk of avian influenza (Bird flu), on 20th December 2016, the terms of the General Licence were amended to ban the gathering of poultry including chicken, geese, ducks, pheasants, turkeys and guinea fowl – they are not permitted under the amended general licence. However, pigeons and cage birds e.g. canaries, budgies and finches, are considered lower risk, therefore gatherings of these birds are currently still permitted, providing the terms of the General Licence are adhered to.PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SITUATION MIGHT CHANGEThe General Licence and information about it can be viewed at:https://www.gov.uk/guidance/bird-gatherings-licences Nowt about 'Letting them out' Just about Shows etc.

REDCHEQHEN Posted January 8, 2017 Report Posted January 8, 2017 I used the RPRA template for a show we had yesterday, naming the vet we use, he's not very local, but I did ring him to ask his permission. Then we use a race book for the show entries and I had to take names (which is normal!) Their addresses and telephone numbers (which I don't normally) as the show was only open to two federations - it wasn't an open show. Attendance was good - with 68 birds in the show pens and a further 64 nominated ring numbers - so the race will be flown for £625 in race money. It was a lot of writing though! All monies raised is prize money for the show and race, no expenses are deducted, but we take the opportunity to run a raffle and football cards to raise funds for the club at the same time.
THE FIFER Posted January 8, 2017 Author Report Posted January 8, 2017 well done, very good all went well ,

Well done Red chequer. Ok a little extra work, but abiding by the rules A. means no come backs, and B. shows that we can all abide by the rules with no great hardships.
Tony C Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 A RPRA directive to come into force this year. Letter from RPRA Head Office relating to bird Gatherings. It was stated that it was a legal requirement to notify DEFRA of any Bird Gatherings. Marking/shows /Sales/Training etc.A Summary of what was expected from Regions were as follows. Maintain and submit to their respective APHA ( https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/animal-and-plant-health-agency )office a list of all its member clubs, the physical location of the clubs meeting place and a copy of the Generic Contingency Plan. Accompanied to the list of clubs a letter outlining that from the start of April to the end of September each year, member clubs typically meet on a Friday evening for race basketing purposes and confirmation of Secretaries details which can be found on the RPRA website. Also provide each club with a copy of the Generic Contingency Plan and inform them of the requirement to display the plan on their notice board.
Guest IB Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 Tony, its a long time since I last looked but I thought the race programme had to be advised to Animal Health office too. I'm not sure how this was to be done, if it was just the one Animal Health office that deals with all race points, or only the ones falling within an Animal Health office's own area of responsibility. And whether it was the club, fed or Union that advised the office (s) .
