I have been a member of the SHU council for about 12 years and faithfully attend most meetings.Last Sunday there was a council meeting followed by the SHU annual general meeting at which a total of THREE members turned up.I am not criticising anyone for this as it is not exactly riveting stuff but three seems a bit poor.I wonder if anyone on this site has an opinion on this.

Why dont they have the AGM the same day as the show, everybodys there and yer guaranteed a good attendance. Its premeditated to hold it when the least folk are interested imo. If nobody attends then the hierarchy can do and push through what they want. This is basic politics lol.

Hierarchy?Yeah that will be right Derek try standing up at any pigeon meeting and ask for volunteers to help to administer the organisations, then observe how closely the assembled fanciers inspect the floor beside their boots.

Have they stopped posting them! We have pensioners in our club not one is on the internet and 6 don't even have mobile phones 5 members have been at my door today and only 1 has a balance sheet he got it on Thursday I went on SHU website myself after seeing this post to look at balance sheet and couldn't find it. I know the AGM is in December but after seeing a post on here re the bird flu that someone had phoned the SHU or guidance and Linda had apologised about update as she was tired with doing the end of year books so I thought the AGM was running late

We never received any notification of the AGM and we spoke about it with Linda at the SHU show, she said that some of the emails got blocked as spam by the email provider or something like that, but that's no excuse for all members not getting their balance sheet, apparently there is a rule that a meeting can't be called out of order because members don't receive notification, this can open the door for abuse, I'm not saying that it was intentional, but I think too many didn't get the paperwork, which is a poor show all round.

I think there is a point to all the comments that are being made here but I have got to insist that I have attended every AGM for about 12 years and you would not need any more than two hands to count the fanciers who turn up.

Walter, I have been a Delegate for 2 years now. There should be 30 Delegates. I accept that it is nigh impossible for Highlands and Islands, NE and Aberdeen to attend. It will be difficult for Dundee, Angus and Scottish Borders to attend, however, you are Solway and are able to manage despite the difficulty. I don't think I have been at a Council meeting with more than 20 attending, usually around 10.

Personally, I haven't managed the AGM. The first year I was watching the kids and was advised not to bring them, but they would have been fine playing their game systems up the back, it is not as though it was overcrowded. This year my Fed AGM was on, but steps have been taken to avoid this difficulty in the future.

I also think some of the points raised are valid, however the amount of work that is put in to run the show probably means running the AGM on the same day would cause too many complications. Balance sheets could be posted out by mail if this is not done as appears the case. This would raise a cost.

I personally feel that the SHU needs a good shake up, as do most pigeon organisations, however, back to the age old problem, who would fill positions and carry out the work and are they fit for purpose.

Having spoken to the SHU secretary this morning, she would like to welcome any suggestions on how to improve the SHU. You can put them in writing or phone the office.

Regarding not receiving the notification of the AGM, over 1500 agendas were posted out to members this year and all fanciers who have given an email address were emailed a copy. All members up to 2012 had a copy posted to them and still hardly anyone turned up. I, along with some members on the SHU Management Committee have never missed an SHU AGM for many years. I can assure you although the meeting is held in the Central Belt normally, no-one except for Joe Connoll turns up year after year.

This year we had a crowd - two members from East Calder turned up.

No one on the Management Committee is paid any money, except expenses for petrol/deisel, for attending the meetings. The same members have given hundreds of hours, attending meetings, in the evenings, afternoons and Sundays without complaint to assist in the running of your SHU.

We could do with more people to help so why not become a delegate for your local fed or join the committee for organising the SHU Show.

We look forward to you assisting in the management of your SHU.

Regarding the e-mail notifications, I am Fed Sec for East of Scotland and have received no notice of AGM, or any updates regarding the situation with the bird flu, I asked my Delegateto raise this at the Council meeting and he was told there was a problem with the e-mail system, then anpther update got sent out, and posted on here but I still never received it, the email requesting payment for rings and rubbers got to me ok tho???????????????

OK everyone who feels like it is welcome to have a pop at the SHU claiming they didn't get this or they didn't get that but gentlemen it's all a distraction from the central point that attendance at the Scottish Homing Union AGM is very poor indeed and a disgrace.

I dont know of any who received notification of the AGM, regardless if they wish to attend or not, they should be sent the balance sheet .Their is no excuse for this.

Lets see how many didnt get notified......... NOT ME!!

When it comes to computers I am absolutely hopeless However even an idiot like me can type in SHU and up it pops, scroll down to Documents then click on Balance Sheet 2016 and lo and behold there it is in all its glory..
