alec guinness Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 One back from the weekends race today which has been hawked.
grdkeith Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I've had three birds down the breast just under the wing but . I think they are getting injured coming out of the aluminium crates in our transporter, just my opinion Driver has never mentioned any problem Bob!! How do you think that could happen? Must admit not one that had occurred to me
lanarkshire lad Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 Must be about the worst year that I can remember for hawk strikes .
hotrod Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I've had three birds down the breast just under the wing but . I think they are getting injured coming out of the aluminium crates in our transporter, just my opinion ive raced out of these alloy crates for over 10 years and have never heard anyone say that birds getting hurt coming out the crates .that's a new one .
hotrod Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 lost a yearling hen today from training , tossed 9 birds ,5 came then about 2 mins another 2 then 3/4 hr later my fancy for kettering came on his own and still waiting on the yearling . after a 12.25 lib .
HOMER49 Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 Had two away at the weekend only got one home.. The wound doesn't look as bad now. Hi BillyIMO that's a peregrine strike if it hit wires a lot more feathers would be outCheersHomer 49
R.A.M.C.63 Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 I have more hurt this year but with the north in the wind most weeks I think that could be a big factor Think North in wind lot to do with it. jmo head winds birds will be coming low crossing Roads etc. skimming fence posts, telephone wires. pylons. not sure percy be too keen coming down that low, no room for error. risking injury its self. more likely sparrow hawks, gos hawks, as i said just my thoughts,
Mossgiel Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Just watched a pair of peregrines take a pigeon from a team of birds going over my loft. Once the cock had caught it [ pied coloured pigeon ], he passed it to the hen peregrine to carry off Someone in the Dundee area will be a bird missing this morning.
Froog Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Undoubtedly lots caused by hawks directly or cos of fleeing attack, but years ago when pigeons came home damaged we blamed wires or other obstacles but nowadays all injuries in some lofts are classed as hawked !!have pigeons now stopped hitting things by accident?i agree 100%
gulkie Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 I think I've been lucky up to now lost 4 at races only 1 until this weeks race (Melton mobley ) lost 31 hawked losing 4 tail feathers and 4 with light breast injuries (I believe caused by BOPS ) Could be wrong .Lost 7 training.
