Tony C Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 I would up the maize content in their feed as this artic blast we've had is using up a lot of their energy just to keep warm. Also I would get their droppings tested.

Your wormer might not be doing its job or there is a secondary hatch of. Worms since you. Last. Done. Them
andy Burgess Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 i would say your feeding is fine Phil for your location and getting your birds to home from a race. i know its not always easy for you to get out to the loft ,, yet i would watch them feeding , which seed is getting cleared first ? i am fairly sure it will be the maize ,as Tony has said look to add some to your feed if thats the case . Gerry + would be ok to replace some V/L best all round for the race birds i.m.o. . Bigda has a point about the worm treatment , did you give a secondary dose ? do you give multi-vitamins in any form ? i would also (myself) have treated for canker for a few days at least every 3 to 4 weeks . i am no expert Phil , these are only my opinions , not always easy when we cant see and handle them first hand .
novo10 Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 Change the systemCorrect the pigeons are not motivated enough
peter pandy Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 If you feel you wish to continue with V/L it might be better being nearer the Artic Circle to give them Start + with it having a higher protein content every day allowing them to muscle up. Maize wont put muscle on the keel !! OMO
philg50 Posted April 27, 2016 Author Report Posted April 27, 2016 Well i am nae going to change my system ,i am going to think about motivation ,i am going to worm any that are thin ( in my opinion ) and leave at home this weekend ,i am going to send for a test kit ,and up the protein and fats ,so thanks for your reply's we will see if they improve.

Tony C Posted April 27, 2016 Report Posted April 27, 2016 http://downloads.versele-laga.com/flipbuilder/wegwijzereng/index.html#p=56 VL Allrounder has 45% peas in the mix IMO upping the protein will just compound the problem.
philg50 Posted April 27, 2016 Author Report Posted April 27, 2016 Could you have mice? The only mouse i have seen i caught out side loft last week and found out it was a shrew ,and i see all the floor of the dookit so i can say absolutely none in there.

Good!! Considering we have only done 2x60 mile races I would doubt feeding or motivation would be major factors given that you are feeding quality mixes
Old_Strain_Lover Posted April 29, 2016 Report Posted April 29, 2016 Have you spread the breast feathers near the keel and looked at the color of the flesh/skin? It should be a nice rosey pinkish color in a healthy bird. You don't want to see a somewhat darkish blue/purple color.
