yeboah Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 I have been in the company of very good fanciers and national winners Colin ,all have their fads regarding vents and single tail I personally have never judged a bird on its vent ,but the single tail to me is all about balance in the hand listening to the experts ,my good cock Saddleback has not the best tail but shoulders and a back like a staffie many roads lead to Rome I am more interested in the opposite end from the tail ( what's between the lugs) Atb mick

Yet they tell us the Belgians and Dutch are years in front yet loads have a selector before season starts ! Does that mean they know nowt themselves .

Delboy Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 If you ask Jim Hannah who has handled all the top national winners ( while taking their photos )for many years he will tell you that they all handle different. But he says most have a good back.
bullcock Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Del, I was just going to mention jim hannah as a man who has handled more snfc champions than anyone and he says they come in all shapes and sizes. I think you hit the nail on the head by knowing your bird had a drooping tail but also had the observation to notice she had tightened up to a single flight. The rest is history.

Roland Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 A great book, written over several years and loft visits was produced and publish in Belgium in 2007. It did a survey for want of a better word, of national and excellent performances of top pigeons. Weight, sizes, lengths, shapes etc. etc. Vents, tails etc. etc It finished via saying that top pigeons come in all shapes. weight and sizes and that there certainly wasn't a common denominator. I believe that Ponderosa stud have copies. Indeed it was via them that I learned of it when visiting Canada.
Tony C Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Have read of fanciers along with other things pairing up their pigeons to try and breed pintails. They will pair pigeons with opposite laying tails, they pair one that lays to the right with one that lays to the left.
