andy Burgess Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 whose pigeons eats these i get one or two to pick but noting major ive a few hens that peck away at it . when i started i put it in a pick pot for them . what a waste of time and product that was ? just put a small amount in as & when now . like other vitamins , minerals , or products , some go crazy for them , others not .
geordie1234 Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 One of the most important things you can give the pigeons during breeding imo
alex young Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 Unless breeding my birds hardly touch pink/black minerals.I coat the corn with oil and sprinkle them on it during the rest of the year.
greenbar Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 when breeding they are a must in my loft the bird gorge on the stuff same here, breeding they go mad for it,the rest of the year they hardly look at it.
walterboswell59 Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 the only kind my birds will eat is kilpatricks black minrals and as tommy says cant get enough when feeding youngsters
VMS Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 Stopped giving my pigeons them a few years ago and don't see any difference at all
Leroy Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 At breeding mine go mental for black minerals and red grit/pick pots. Also noticed that if they don't have ready access to health grit for a while at any time of the year, when I do put it in they go mad. In conclusion they have access to all three all year round. I'm not a pigeon, only they know what they need and when so they have it all the time. Let me demonstrate with a story, I'm fairly inexperienced at pigeon racing, but the 2013 young bird season I had a dozen young birds away for a race. I have ets but always try to be there to whistle them in and when they do they trap, grab some food, grab a drink then generally have a sit down for a bit to think about what they've just been through. The old birds are different of course. Anyway, this one race, a young bird, silver hen trapped and went straight to the pick pot. Did nothing but fill up on red grit. I though it a bit strange. Over the next week all the young birds went down with young bird sickness, all except the silver hen. I believe she self medicated, intentionally or otherwise. Anyway the moral of the story for me was, as much as we might think we know what they need and when, the birds know better than we do, so why limit what they have access to. Lee
MIK Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 black minerals is a must for breeding.....its not for the help of the young in nest ...i believe it helps the stomach of the parent, They will devour it feeding young ...i have give it all year round and they only pick at it occasionally. The last bout of ybs i had was 2012..and all ybs would have emptied trough as soon as ...my opinion it helped their gut for certain tasks ..its a must atbMick
