I have never heard of a club sec here in Ireland getting paid

Same here mate, never heard of it. In all honesty, the idea is quite jawdropping to me, that any official of a club should be paid. I have been a secretary of a racing club and was secretary, show sec. & treasurer of NISRS (all at the same time) and would not tolerate the thought of being paid for something I loved doing. I wonder is paying a secretary a good or bad thing. Again, I just can't come to terms with the scenario. OMO.

its ok to do the job for nothing thats good will to the club  and no doubt it is appriciated

but in a large club  more and more responsabilities are put on you and it comes to the piont when they start taking the p**s and expect you to do it while they sit back and watch

comes down to you dont get nothing for nothing anymore

I am General Secretary of a 25 member club and get my fees paid plus any receipted expences. We also have a race Secretary who collects the birdage and sends the result to the Fed who gets £3.00 per member.

The most time consuming part of the job now, (we are all ETS) is the ETS ring input, but that is balanced by the electronic downloading of the race clock times.

hiya m8..i also think its jaw dropping that most dont get paid in ireland, the secretary,s job is important in the running of the club and as everyone knows the ones that shout the loudest in the clubs will not take on the secs job! ;)

i think although i maybe biased..if you have a good secretary then your half way to having a well run club.

the work outside the club credits being paid for it,its in your own time and club members should appreciate you doing it..because half of them wouldnt go near it. :)

In Scotland the Union secretary and the National secretary get rises although the membership is declining. In effect, they are getting more money for less work.I think they should be paid pro rata as to how many members they have. This would make them  try to encourage more members into the sport instead of just sitting back and getting paid even more.
