Stu3y Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 ive been posting progress pictures of my loft build on facebook.. the amount of comments against pigeons is mad! 1 lad saying it would be his worst nightmare living near me, and that some 1 near him has racing pigons that crap all over his car and garden etc, so hes reported them to the council. some a number of comments saying flying rats some 1 else saying they would report me and shoot them weird, i guess theres alot of people that dont like pigeons!
THE FIFER Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 the trouble is m8, they dont really know about them they class them with streeters, also its not very often pigeons poo when flying, also what they done during the wars, also the money given to charities by the pigeon fancy, the public are not educated regarding domestic pigeons

billt Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Yes Stu, It's a funny old world, no doubt most of these have cats that travel as they please and kill plenty of wildlife whereas the pigeon kills nothing but are tagged with the flying rat name, I'm afraid we'll never win as I can't see them being used in the next world war
walterboswell59 Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 theres a lot of site members on Facebook , whats your name on Fb ,hopefully some may "friend you" and offer some supportive comments ? just what i was thinking andy
soupie Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 hi mate, i only see my "friends" posts on facebook or posts from groups I have joined. Are these people your "friends" or why are they seeing your posts?? soupie
walterboswell59 Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 where you from stu there will be fanciers near you that can help you whats your name do you know any fanciers in your area m8
BIGPETE Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I wouldn't worry about it. On facebook (and the Internet generally) people feel safe sitting at home behind their screens and mouth off and give out crap (keyboard warriors). I have found in the past the best solution is to take it away from the internet and knock on their doors and deal with it person to person. Anyone can be brave over the internet and often it gets out of hand and petty. Also one stupid comment is added to by another person and it snowballs. If they are on your friends list it cant be hard to know where they live, i'd go and see em stu and nip this in the bud mate.
Michael J Burden Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Do you honestly believe all do not like pigeons? I would guess many have either spoken to or know someone who has and met a little hitler type fancier. The sort who says you cannot let your kids play in their own garden, why you hanging your washing out I have pigeons etc. I would hate to live near such a fancier.Oh and the bad mouthing and poor sportsmanship we experience is enough to put any bystander off pigeons. As to the pigeon droppings on their cars etc I think they need to open their eyes and see the wild birds that do this all the time. I accept some times a pigeon will but very rarely. I just say this to you it takes all sorts to live live together and you need to realise this too. MJB

Stu3y Posted April 21, 2014 Author Report Posted April 21, 2014 they live no where near me, so im not bothered, i only have 1 garden that joins to mine and that has a massive garage built the full length of it, so i doubt i will get any bother or complaints! just seems odd that people are so negative against pigeons in general.
THE FIFER Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 would be good to see a photo of your loft progress on here m8,

anto b Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 had a good experience this evening when training , a family came over and seemed to be shell shocked when I told them that the birds would get home before me . they thought the birds where great and the kids got photos with them then I let them release the birds from the crates . if everyone does there bit it can only help change the perception that some people have about these fantastic birds that we all love to race .

If all fanciers were to take the various chances to show the public what breeding and racing pigeons is about like this fancier took the time to do more interest and dare I say understanding towards the problems the birds face from B.O.P. "well done anto b".........
philg50 Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 It is imo that through the press and media that the pigeon fraternity have to educate the public ,instead of giving all the time to charity approach magazines, local and nation wide papers ,even if it has to be paid to put good informative articles about our sport into the wider public domain, and on doing this we might raise some simpathy to our on going problems with the birds of prey ,the public if they dont know anything about pigeon fanciers need to be informed.
