Hi Walter your bang on on your posts am like you I want to win every race I enter if I didn't think the birds were right to win I'd keep them another week in the house if you enter birds and set a clock your trying to win simple as that. I can remember when I started up in galston there was five doo men within 100 yds of me and even from a club toss I want a doo drop to me first and that's without clocks set !! There's a guy in my club he moved down here from the Blantyre area he's the same when he doesn't win his excuse is we're all too serious it's just a hobby to him yet he's been telling the same stories about his alleged winners 30 years ago in Blantyre and during the racing season his car does more miles than a space shuttle that tell me all I need to know am to long in the wids to be fkd about by an owl !!

aye young george will learn to take what some doo men say with a pinch of salt and bye the way tell that guy hes a bum a f k cause there wis nae good fanciers in blantyre 30 years ago lol

there were 2 members in my old club Netherburn who always said the same thing you are telling Walter, the short races are the weans races or just trainers but as you say when they win a short race then it is a different matter they are cock a hoop,me I love to watch my birds coming from anywhere but I do get more of a buzz when they are over the water at 500 odd miles,I was like a loony last year when I watched our grizzle hen coming from Saintes to win what was her last race, she is now in the stock loft :animatedpigeons: but I was just as happy when our red chequer hen came home over a week later [well almost!!! ]

no wonder tam a great pigeon your grizzle m8 i agree the about the buzz in the longer races maybe its because the longer you wait the bigger the relief when we get one mixed with thank f k lol

Hey Moscow

Pretty sure who the guy is from Blantyre that moved down beside you although I won't mention him by name, what I will say is that he should know the " golden rules of breeding and could spot a diamond of a doo easily " !!! also don't listen to Walter as their have always been good doo men in Blantyre, LOL, but you are both correct, even though I plan my season around the nationals the club wins are also nice.

very few sprint pigeons can fly the distance unless its a very high velosity george but distance pigeons will hold there own with sprinters if you work them right im afraid if i only kept them for nationals id be bored out my skull like i say if your prepaired to put the work in you can do both its just harder thats all if your birds are good enough your yearling will keep you in hunt in club and fed and gain great experience doing so out to the coast 2yr olds and up over the water im just knocking the guys that use the national as an excuse or reason that they get beat in the club because its bull s t and george rankin is the proof in the pudding winning from 60 to 600 miles and mid week sprints to just like me george and gareth put the work in to win them all no im a distance man excuses and never tried to take any fancier down when he got beat by saying its weans races

Never said sprint pigeons can win at the distance

You should have

Didnt the Flor Engles birds sold as sprint middle distance, did they not get winners from distance ,I think i read that some where.

Birds treated the right way will perform. Van reets have done well for my family at all distanced

Yer right mate,I remember being at Matt mclaughlans in fife with ma da years ago just after he was 1st open Rennes and I was asking him about strains etc. He said son the pigeon doesn't know it's gonnae fly 500 miles it's up to you to make it fly it, and there wasn't many better flyers at that time than Matt

you can put speed in to a distance bird dal but ive never been able to put stamina into a sprinter some families are all rounders but m8 i could only get van reets up to 360 mile here in the west in slow race they were well behind think where you are in the country has a big part to play imo

You can put motivation into a distance pigeon is my guess in a sprint but no matter the motivation you will never get a sprint pigeon in the distance

Whats the Genesis for the fascination in keeping and Racing Pigeons and how do you create a strain of battle-hardened birds to keep going on when the tough gets Going.

Regarding fascination I think in my opinion its reading about Scotlands greatest ever distance fancier Alan Raeside of Irvine,RCH cock "The Conqueror" 1,009mls vel.687 from Palamos Spain, then his grandson timed from Palamos, makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up,anytime I need a "Buzz" just read about it all over again, saying that I admire everyone who has the guts to enter races at 500mls+.
