In my experience a loft finds its own happy medium, by that I mean if you overfill it you'll lose some until it hits the right number or thereabouts. My y/bird loft is 16x6 and I always seem to end up housing around 35 come racing no matter how many I start of with.

im taking it the guys a new start del and in a perfect world i would agree with you but if he starts with 36 races the program he will be lucky to be left with more than a dozen one bad toss or race and his seasons over and no yearlings for next year with 50 to 60 to start if he races the program and is left with to many which i dout he can allways weed out to how many he wants to keep imo this is a better way for anyone trying to build a team

I agree that ye need plenty young birds about you when starting out to be left with enough to fly as obs but for me you should keep them in a big loft if possible. Steven Van Breemens space age ventilation system can help ye keep a lot of birds in a small loft.

No pictures Colin but what I remember is you run a pipe ( plastic 6-8 inch )the full length of the loft inside at the highest point. It has holes cut in it from small to large creating a draw of air. Maybe someone else on here knows more about the system and could post it up.

I think gregg&mc Candless in Ireland has something similar .
