JohnQuinn Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Was wondering how yesterday's race will affect the rest of your plans for up coming races?? All comments welcome.
blucock Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Will more affect next year John very disappointing for us but the good blue cock is back and on course for Ypres - disappointed bitterly in the hens though

Delboy Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Just spoke to Gordon Grant, the winner of last years Newbury and he has 4 Alencon birds to come.He timed a yearling cock I bred at 12.39 ( he sent 15)so he is well chuffed. This cock was unraced as yb. I reckon this race will not be on the SNFC calendar next year.Too many good pigeons being lost for some unknown reason.

jonl6280 Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 No change , I'm terms of doos for other races , still have doos for Maidstone , Ypres, and the grz clock home from Newbury will go to alencon
frank-123 Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Couple of guys I know had good returns. 11/15 5 /8 Which is not bad in an east wind and very hot day flying over 300 miles
eastcoaster Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 still have some for maidstone and ypres but leaving the channel alone until i learn a bit more about conditioning them . i don`t think we have the correct transporters for national racing we must improve so the birds can have a drink on 3 sides not just 1. omo.
yeboah Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 I sent 2 yesterday and had them home by 2-30 ,Wont affect my plans as they were made weeks ago if all goes to plan regarding misfortune hope to send 1 to ypres 1 to alencon and perhaps 1 to tours ,dont like sending teams john as i feel they are only going to compete and not to win hard enough setting the one up properly omo everyone to his own good luck to all whatever .
Chris Little Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Learned my lesson a couple of years ago in which my Gold Cup plans were disrupted at the 1st inland national. Never sent any this year hence my Gold Cup team is still intact for the time being. Sorry to hear many birds are still missing..... though very well done to my special pal with our bloodlines Wont lose any sleep should this race be abolished in the future

JohnQuinn Posted June 9, 2013 Author Report Posted June 9, 2013 The hen i got yesterday and her mate, a 2 yr old Ck will go to Ypres and anything else that unexpectedly sticks its wing up tae volunteer. My Alencon hens laid yesterday so them and their mates' mean i have 4 for that. 2 Yearling hens i got last week from Leicester, are prematurely being brought back out of retirement and will hopefully lay by Wednesday to go to Maidstone with another 2 x 2yr olds. Had 2 ear marked for the longest race, a 4yr old Ck and 3 yr old hen, but a might just add them to my Maidstone/Alencon entries. Doubtful if i will go to Clermont.

DJL Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 3300 entries says it shouldn't be abolished. If you don't fancy it keep them at home. It was a warm day with east in the wind but the leaders are doing around 1400 velocity. Newbury is nearly always a sticky race for various reasons. I don't understand why federations include it on their programme. We raced from Leicester (288 miles) yesterday and I would estimate +90% returns. Ideal preparation for Alencon or Maidstone candidates.

Novice Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 This thread is about future race plans. If you want to discuss something, start your own thread. The outcome of this race and 1 other previous race is that I will be unlikely to compete in any further old bird races other than Maidstone and Ypres. I won't make a final decision yet as, if a bird is on form, for some additional race then it will go there.
geordie1234 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 On further thought I'm now thinking the two year old I timed for Newbury might go to Maidstone instead. Maybe hold off on the channel until next year. Patience I'm told lol
kingbilly 1 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 every thing is going to plan for me with my 14 2year old hens stoped for madstone and every thing els thats lying about to the 11/14 that got home on the shift frome newbury will be set up for the gold cup or ypres cheers

Patience I'm told lol george patience doesnt come into it nowadays, far to many obstacles in there way if you think they can do the job send them as you know they can be taken right of your loft or two mile s down the road jmo
Guest bigda Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 the next race from maidstone will be like all the rest of the races, planned or not, there will be 70% of them missing and will be found in forestry, or a nest, you where told this before the race at Newbury the racing game is finished, and as i have stated before the fanciers don't believe it is over nor do they care.

bullcock Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Was wondering how yesterday's race will affect the rest of your plans for up coming races?? All comments welcome.Hi John, I remember at blackpool asking you what was the most important race in the snfc program, most would instantly say the gold cup, but it is the first inland race, because this race holds all the birds for Maidstone, gold cup ypres and tours, and a poor return will have a major effect on the whole national season, and every year for the last 5 years the returns from the first national have been very poor affecting the birdage at the rest of the races.Maidstone will be a good race I am sure as will ypres, so why is the first national always poor, in my opinion, if the first national was from the east we would get our returns JMO, all east races over the last few years have had good returns and every race in the middle has been a poor return.(newbury, Bovingdon, cheltham....)
IanO Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Learned my lesson a couple of years ago in which my Gold Cup plans were disrupted at the 1st inland national. Never liked Newbury as a race point so did not send either. Congratulations to the winners though and I hope more birds work their way back.
Guest bigda Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Why dont you just get Budgies henrik how many birds have you left, and do you think we are going to be used as cannon fodder next year going with the national not a chance mate, did the lanarkshire birds find the water in the old style baskets i wonder.
