Every loft in the Solway got remeasured using a GPS long/lat, will be interesting to see the diffo it makes??

Has the shu passed this as a rule ? I know the RPRA were looking into using this .

don't think so stuart but they are accepting it

I think it should be passed and everybody should get re.messured .i would love to see the real measurements some have . I fly against one guy who i give 3 miles to ,I have driven from his house by road and its exactly 3 miles to mine and its no a straight line ,ps sometimes I give him over 3 miles .impossible ?

No it is not an SHU rule. The management committee of the Solway Federation decided that it was a far better idea than sticking pins in ordnance survey maps.I expect all feds in Scotland will follow the lead of the Solway (not for the first time)

Would also like this down I fly on a compound and one guy was giving another guy 150 yrds and they two shared the same compound fs

Measurements can be obtained using Google RPRA.

187. Flying Distances

All NEW flying distances must be obtained

through the Association and calculated on

the Ellipsoidal System by Computer(s). The

Cumbria Region and Devon and Cornwall

region may grant permission for Clubs

administered by these Regions to race to a

“Breaking Point†for Club racing only.

“Individual members applying for distances

must have loft location and latitude/

longitude countersigned by a Club

Chairman or secretary. All lofts locations are

to be calculated from Ordnance Survey or

Google Earth. Google Earth data must be

submitted to RPRA headquarters for

conversion to OS before use.

hi

rooster and jacko done mine which were n 55 59 48.5 ,w 003 49 24.8,google earth gives you n 55 59 49,w003 49 25,so not too much a difference still be interesting

to see how far it is out with the actual yards in each race, dont think it will be to much

I'm sure I read on here that google was slightly off for terrorism reasons :emoticon-0127-lipssealed::emoticon-0138-thinking: :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Just to clarify: SHU have passed the use of GPS for pinpointing loft location. The stipulation is that it must be done using the hand-held device. Internet apps must not be used as these are not always as accurate, probably for the reasons you've given.

long and lat mean diddly dick here in the west if your only route home is from the east

with the dog leg only a aeroplane would want to know long and lat they days of pigeons coming very high in the skies are gone we have to send birds en route through at least 300 known named hills and they are all over 2,000 feet with BOP and BOP

sighted nest set up for the naturist to watch in awe as they take a pigeon out the air our bird must come through some of the hill like the proverbial clay pigeon to they hawks like pull killed next pull killed
