alex young Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 Watched a large s/hawk yesterday being chased by a group of crows and have noticed a smaller one hedge hopping just above the garden fences, there seems to be plenty about.
gulkie Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 Need a good hard winter that will thin then down to a thousand pair in each county.?
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 I don't think having them locked in all winter is the way to do it. Our doos come and go as they please near enough all day everyday outwith the racing season and over the course of the year we lose fewer than other local fanciers who keep them in from the last race of the year until Febuary/March the next.In fact two season ago a fancier a couple of miles u the road from me lost more in the first week of letting his birds out again than we did over the whole of the winter all depends on the scale of the problem mind you, from what I read on here and in the papers etc. we certainly don't have it as bad as others.

Same here, I have my old mob on open loft, 40 odd birds, I rarely lose one, my other lot of 40 that are only 30yds. away get hammered when I let them out, have kept them in this week, the last time they were out within 10mins. I had percy and a hen Gos at them, I thought they had escaped unscathed but when I shut up there were 2 missing, I can't see the difference but I must be missing something
geordie1234 Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 Think the doos that are out all the time are more street wise if ye like A guy across from me has 30-40 white fantails and pouters they are out 24/7 he has only lost 3 in 5 year
