sapper756 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 CASH-STRAPPED Glasgow Rangers will play Third Division next season following a vote of Scottish Football League clubs, in a move that could have enormous consequences for the entire future of Scottish football. Already expelled from the Scottish Premier League (SPL) following the formation of a new company that took place after Rangers entered administration, Rangers were dropped to the lowest league tier of Scottish football following a meeting of Scottish Football League chairmen. SFA chief executive Stewart Regan had said that demoting Rangers to the Third Division would cause financial catastrophe and a "slow, lingering death" of the Scottish game and said they should be dropped to the First Division instead. But at a news conference after the meeting it was announced that 25 out of the 30 SFL clubs had voted for Rangers to be entered into the Third Division. "It has been a very, very important day for Scottish football," SFL chief executive David Longmuir said."We have voted to willingly accept Rangers as an associate member of the SFL."The only acceptable position will be to place Rangers FC into the Third Division from that start of this season, 2012/13. This decision followed a tried and tested process"Today's decision has been one of the most difficult for all concerned but it has been taken in the best interest of sporting fairness, which is the fundamental principle of the SFL."He added: "We need to focus on rebuilding our game and restoring pride in our game. Twenty Five clubs out of 30 voted in favour of the Third Division option."The decision has that's been made is in the interests of sporting fairness. I am very comfortable with the decision.''What now for the Scottish football? how will this action affect the game in Scotland? Please keep this thread free from any offensive posts, thank youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0167-beer.gif

billt Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Somebody will make a few quid out this.I know Mr Green bought all the players contracts for a pittance and is ready to rake the profits in. An employment legal expert has said it was illegal to sell the players contracts
Tony C Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Well done to all the other teams for sticking to their principles and not putting £££££'s first.
Guest stb- Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Well done to all the other teams for sticking to their principles and not putting £££££'s first.they will all go down now when they suddenly realise there will be no telvisison money less sponsorship and they wont be getting there share of 40-000 gate money 4 times a year they will all die a slow death
JADE Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Who knows what will happen now. I would think there will be a few SPL chairmen sh---ng themselves tonight. i wonder how many of them will go into administration or liquidation over the next season or two but at least a precedent has been set so we dont have to go through all this uncertainty again. Due to the standard of player that Rangers will be able to "attract" in div 3 it could take a few years to get back to the "riches" of the SPL. I can imagine Celtic Park being half empty for half the season once the SPL has been won by November. On the bright side our UEFA coefficient will rise when Motherwell win the champions league. Anyway I will stick to watching the Premiership. Glory glory Man United !!!
celtic Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 No they won't, Scottish football has got it right for once, strip them of their ill gotten titles now and make an example of them.

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 No they won't, Scottish football has got it right for once, strip them of their ill gotten titles now and make an example of them.they won the titles fair and square, that had nothing to do with the tax man but they did deserve to be punished and the man who causeed it all has got off scot free, he has not been relegated to anywhere,he is the one who should be in jail for his fraudulent doing's,but a lot of other clubs will suffer financially
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Within 6 months Kilmarnock will go into liquidation, ten million pounds worth of debt and only 6000 fans, doesn't addup. This will be followed by the likes of Hibs and Hearts. Romanov has been looking at a way out of Hearts and Scottish football, now he will get his chance by going into administration, followed by Liquidation.

geordie1234 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 This will not effect Scottish football as the spl2 will be formed to accomadate Rangers and invite anyone else in that wants too. I hope all the fans that wanted them in the third turn out for there teams. Jim Ballantyne the Airdrie chairman told my big brother a story when my bro played for Airdrie he said that when Airdrie went bust and they bought clydebank that he had 1500 fans signed up to some sort of petition or what that they would purchase a season book if they remained a club low and behold only 368 season books were sold. Arboath chairman has stated he needs a 40000 seaer stadium to hold all the people that sed they would come to the club if they voted no to the newco
maverick Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 I dont think any of the clubs in the 3rd division will mind thet will be rubbing there hands unless the rangers fans do ,do walking away
Guest geordiejen Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 its going to be a very gloomy next season for newco rangers.whats the point of stripping them of unfair titles as RFC is now dead.all trophies won have now stopped and its a matter of the history books.once they went to liquidation the writing was on the cards,i applaud the spl and sfl for putting all finances aside and well done for allowing this new football club into scotland.i hope now all the spl teams will now look to improving the spl and have a good run in european football.i believe its good for scottish football will benefit from it by means of fair play and not ££££££.
billt Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Do you think the media will show more interest in the 3rd. division rather than the Spl as that would appear to be a foregone conclusion
just ask me Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Do you think the media will show more interest in the 3rd. division rather than the Spl as that would appear to be a foregone conclusion the first month or so maybe then maybe again at the end of the season if involved in a promotion race
billt Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 the first month or so maybe then maybe again at the end of the season if involved in a promotion race Be interesting to see what sort of team they can assemble, Don't seem to have enough to make a team at the moment

geordie1234 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Follow follow. Let's see the spl prosper hahaha bye bye sky/espnYou seem to be forgetting they said they were going no where
Guest geordiejen Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 the largest amount of money comes from ticket reciepts.not tv deals.the death of glasgow rangers must not and will not bring down scottish football.
JADE Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 It will not bring down Scottish football because the small clubs which live within their means will carry on as before its the clubs who are in the SPL but in reality shouldnt be and who rely on the income from Celtic, Rangers and TV money to survive. I predict there will be at least one possibly two current SPL clubs in administration or even liquidation within the next two years
