Rooster J. Cogburn Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Got one from Niort at 7am this morning, badly limping and hit wires.Poor barsteward was so close. Some effort on the doos part to get home with this injury. Got two back this morning from Ypres.Hadn't seen any since Sunday afternoon and got a couple within an an hour or two of each other

Got two back this morning from Ypres.Hadn't seen any since Sunday afternoon and got a couple within an an hour or two of each other Good to get them working in m8.I think the likes of the distance races nowadays in Scotland ( Niort ), if there isnt 10% of the pigeons timed in then the race should go until there is or as other organisations do, 200ypm .Nothing worse than not enough pigeons to take the prizes.

Delboy Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 i think it should stay the same if a pigeon is doing less than 400ypm it is homing not racing lol, so Jock Alstons doo that won the west section is a homer doing 404ypm.ps. Its homing pigeons we ve got, they try and get home as quick as possible.lol

I agree there should be some way of accomodating disasters like this race. How unlucky if someone had got a doo doing 399.99 velocity and it doesnt make the result. And homers they may be but they did get home. Plenty dont!
dms5686 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 lol, so Jock Alstons doo that won the west section is a homer doing 404ypm.ps. Its homing pigeons we ve got, they try and get home as quick as possible.lolwell done to john alston he can be proud of his birds effort but there has to be a stopping point and i think 400ypm is fine there is no one more pleased than me to see a late one home to fight another day long distance racing is about a pigeon with speed and stamina combined and scotland has these pigeons lowering ypm would be lowering the standard that the scottish long distance pigeons have achieved for many years

dms5686 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 well done to all the people who timed in niort/fontenay all superb pigeons and superb fanciers well done
Delboy Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 I see the SNFC 1968 Tours race with 1353 birds away finished at 300ypm.Stokes of Carstairs got last position at 302ypm.I believe there were 16 birds in race time. The last 3 years in the SNFC longest races, Bourges, Messac and Niort , on each occasion all the prizes were not won because of the 400ypm rule.Think its time for a change.

Guest IB Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Got my single candidate home 1530 today. She's a 2 y-o first time across the channel. Over the moon to see her and she's certainly happy to be here too.
blucock Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Think there has to be a limit. You could get a pigeon reported and drive to pick it up after the 3rd day.... what happens then? It could conceivably in a race like Niort win hundreds of pounds in pools??

Jeez, that could happen at any race over 400 miles. The SNFC are the only organisation that stops at 400ypm, most are 200ypm and some even lower. Got my single candidate home 1530 today.
