Had my first ever peregrine attack on Tuesday morning on birds out exercising around the loft; had one hen hit, she returned a bit later covered in blood from an injured wing. Birds have been held in since, plan to let them out tomorrow.

but there is a peregrine nest within 2 miles of my home - so half expecting one

Sue, they had been out flying from around 6:30am. 7:15-ish some came in the open doors, clattering off mesh partition wall to the section I was in (I was ringing my last youngsters). Two missed the loft and landed in carport. I went out to see what was going on, 2 birds in air circling to come down and another veering off away from the loft. Couldn't see anything 'nasty' in sky, and other birds were starting to come back out, so thought they'd just got a fright. Only around 7:45 when I was feeding them in that I noticed a hen was missing. About 8am noticed one of the cocks parading at something through the closed doors, so reckoned that was the hen back - but when I went to let her in, saw her right wing was covered in blood. Centre of the wing was gone (feathers) but there was also a large gash & flesh missing to just short of bone. When I saw wound recognised it as peregrine attack from both wound and behaviour of the other birds at the time they were attacked - just as described on forum many, many times before.

She was very lucky to make it home, and having got here the first thing that happened was the other loftmates attacked her, including her mate. After cleaning, antiseptic spray and sealing the wound with sudafed creme, I put her in a spare box till I came home from work then put her back in with her youngster & cock took to her no bother.

Rooster has had some bother with a peregrine this week too, he's about a mile away. Unfortunately he's one missing; he's also getting bother with a sparrowhawk - one youngster pinned & missing.

I kept them locked up Tuesday till today, had them out 1000 - 1300 without any problem. Clocks change tomorrow meaning it'll be dark here until 7am so they'll not go out mornings next week, change to evenings after work, so hopefully no attack pattern been or likely to be set-up here.
