24 w/h cocks paired with minimal fuss. Hens double keen and took to their mates without having to swap them around which was a bonus. Stock birds to be paired in the morning.

Decided that I am not going to start up on my own this year now but am going into partnership with my Grandad who already has a loft and birds but has not raced properly for 2 years due to health. Going to aim at the June/July long distance races so going to split the birds today as he has left them together all Winter. Then going to pair up the week before the clocks go forward with the aim of a couple of races sitting eggs before May comes along and then to start prepping certain birds for the longer ones of Thurso and Lerwick. Slowly does it this year! Patience is key I believe in this great sport of ours. Will allow us to be rearing babies in much better weather as well.

Eggs started to appear in race & stock lofts, sub zero temps means I'll probably lose a few

Just built up my new loft and hope to pair up stock birds and widowhood Ck's tomorrow, if not it will be Sunday.

I dread this fortnight every year in the loft, doos fighting, going in wrong boxes breaking eggs, everything that Can go wrong usually Does go wrong

Then the best time of year in the loft comes round, when weaning the new young birds and thinking every one looks better than the one before it
