Guest IB Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Most of us ordinary joes don't have the luxury of choosing where we fly from, so the best & worst location must be where you are now, and you do your best to win from there? Was told recently that a member on here has scored well in National Racing in 3 different countries. He moved to whereever his work took him. I take a lot of encouragement out of that, I think you just need to work harder to make the pluses outstrip any minuses .
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Perhaps this thread should be locked as it is sure to upset some fanciers that cant help were they live. But here goes my thought of the best location. I cant argue with other members thoughts that its eyemouth, who realistically have a 90% chance of winning all national races, but for me who gets excited by long distance races then my choice would be Aberdeen, the reason for me to choose this is that it is more of a challenge than flying 100 mile shorter to the eyevalley area, too have 3 races at 600 miles a year is a blessing and although the chances of winning the national are slimmer than the eyevalley lads there is still a realistic chance of a brilliant pigeon to put up that special performance.JMO

Guest big slim Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 For the young bird national Duns seems to be a great location. For all nationals east lothian and eye valley takes a lot of beating. I cant complain because my loft location is a lot better than most basics members.
jonl6280 Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 its about time the the west was given more overfly
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 its about time the the west was given more overflyGermany or Norway

hotrod Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 whare would you consider to be the best location to fly your doos if you where just interested in national raceing and whare would you consider the worst location i think if some of the top flyers in the west moved south or east thay would have won a national i no its horses for courses and may have to chang thare sistems and doos but but i doo think thay would have won a national race or 2 get it on EYN anywhere east of where i stay now that would do 4 me (best location) . where i stay now (worst location)
Guest KING BILLY Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 do members in the west beleve thare sistems and doos would win if thay moved east to say eyemouth or south to dumfries i think some would have to chang thare doos and sistems to compet at the nationals because the extra couple of hours the pigeons in the west have to fly would not be needed and our doos could be to slow for one day raceing
Roland Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Simple, East for wins, west for also rans. Wether club, section or National. Must be where the wind blows. That's whysome times it changes... wind or no wind full stop. The adage of 'One must try harder and be better' is purely rubbish spouted via those in favourable loft positions. If a goos flyer - with or without loft managers' pays the price, has good doo's and cares for then. He sends them in tip top condition. Full stop. No one birds can / or will be better, faster and fitter. One maybe a mite better fancier, but can't achieve the impossible. Yes one can't controll the wind ... adjust the sails mayhbe' but thgat won't mean the location will be bettered. Simple. Yes of course a good fancier will be a good fancier anywhere ... but you don't see many move West in club, Sections or Nations does one!
lanarkshire lad Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 do members in the west beleve thare sistems and doos would win if thay moved east to say eyemouth or south to dumfries i think some would have to chang thare doos and sistems to compet at the nationals because the extra couple of hours the pigeons in the west have to fly would not be needed and our doos could be to slow for one day raceingPut it this way the Great John Hodgsons of Annan won umpteen nationals with bushys Do you think they pigeons would have won nationals here in the west? The first pigeons in the Borders are flying 2 to 3 hours less than the first pigeons in the west. They extra hours make some difference especially for pigeons flying late at night into they big fecken hills knowing that the BOPS are looking for there supper. So for me its a different doo which is required at both locations.
