sapper756 Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) I have been to a few shows and observed fanciers move a certain colour of bird to another pen they have been allocated, because someone has put a bird of the same colour next to theirs, ie, a blue next to another blue. or a red next to another red. So do the assume that judges may compare colours when so close to each other?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif also some do not like to be allocated either the first pen or the last penhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif Any views on this?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif Thank Youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif Edited November 13, 2010 by sapper756
showman Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Judges will compare 2 birds side by side if the colours are the same. Also shows held at say club level where the pens may be tiered, the fanciers will take a long look at their pen allocation and decide where to place each of their entries. Years ago I had a blue w/f cock (Pure Dordin bred from a pair of directs) which when in a top pen looked far too showy, but I soon 'caught on', and always placed him in a middle or bottom pen after that. Wish I had a pound for every card he won after that !!
Delboy Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Pen position is important, try and get your best yin in between two ugly fkers

Super Staffs Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 its all just to help your birds stand out! a good blue white flight looks cushty in between a pair of cheqers lol
b.massey Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I dont think it matters. The winner is the winner. Would not bother me is 12 blues where in a line. Would still put a blue in there
THE FIFER Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Think at some shows the light sometimes are different at the pens, which shouldn't be,but if it's clubs using others premises etc it does vary,

Guest geordiejen Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 cleanliness.i can tell when the fancier has spent the time getting the birds prepared.if i were judging i would mark a bird down if i found dirt on it that wasnt fresh, deffo disqualify a bird that has lice.i would not mark down a bird who has feather damage due to them being out flying or racing.a nice bloom on the bird is good too.

sapper756 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Report Posted October 16, 2011 why do judges not like grizzles pure whites , does anyone know of these being successful in the shows?
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 pure whites , does anyone know of these being successful in the shows? been to countless shows and have only ever seen one white pigeon and it never got a card
Simonwoo Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 I think you are all living in a dream world. I'd the bird is good enough to win then it will. Pen position will not make a bird any better. The judge will pick out the right bird no matter what pen it's in. If you show at a proper show then you can't change the pen positions. For instance Blackpool. Paperwork is filled in before you get there and you can't shuffle birds around. The huge will sort them out
