sapper756 Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Do the PB members have any tips/ideas/theories, on how to accelerate the moulting process? THANK YOUhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
Wiley Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 the only way you can accelerate the moult is by having your birds 100% healthy,
Delboy Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Do the PB members have any tips/ideas/theories, on how to accelerate the moulting process? THANK YOU If you heat the birds up, they rush on with the moult. Some say, chilli or curry powder help I think a little hemp seed helps too. I dont rush the moult on, I like nature to take its course.
budgie Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Keep them Healthy, out every day.fresh grit every day, bath twice a week and crushed Red Skin Peanuts.
kirky Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 i took my darkness ybs off a month earlier this year, still scored well in final races, and are doing well with the moult with just 2 flights to go on normal feeding.
Guest bakes Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 mine have hemp and linseed added into the mix and regular baths and looking well just left them to it and let nature take it course.
Guest Hjaltland Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 There was powder you used to get for poultry to speed on the moult, you sprinkled it on the corn .. it was called moulting powder strangely enough. It smelled of pepper to me. I think Bakes suggestion is probably good.. hemp and linseed ... in small doses. A mild fine day fairly helps too. Up in the far north here, the moult is all but through thankfully. One flight to go in most cases
jimmy_bulger Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 try 50% red band 10% hemp 40%wid mix
b.massey Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 Loft heaters would help www.everythingforpets.com/category/use.dept.1650

ovy1255 Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 sedhocol on the corn and hot baths not warm but as hot as your hands can stand and a good helping of bicarb soda in the water bath water
Guest mick bowler Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 You could try pulling their feathers out! A bird will have excess stress if not moulting normally so you have to go a bit careful.

Guest Brian.Duffy Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 I was told last year that this stuff was great that the birds fall to bits on it, I havent used it myself so cant comment on it. Poultry Spice 1.5kg Poultry Spice is a mineral supplement to give to poultry to improve all round condition and performance. The aromatic blend of highly palatable spices will encourage them to eat their ration and so help to keep them strong and healthy. The high mineral content will promote good egg shell quality. Invaluable to help birds get over the moult. Will help to keep condition on during cold weather. Easy to use, just add to their daily ration.
alex young Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Used Poultry Spice this season on the feed after each race, the birds flew well on it,don't know if it accelerates the moult but I'm using it a couple of times a week now.
Guest mick bowler Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 I cant see how something that keeps a bird condition will also accelerate the moult, kind of contradicts itself.
Guest IB Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 No frills this year, not even moulting mix. Sticking to a basic diet of beans, maples, tares, maize, wheat, barley & hormoform. Mine are on their 2nd last or last flight.
